Position Title:  Safety Trainer

Who We Are  

Metrolinx’s GO Expansion program is delivering more GO service across the network, including the capacity to deliver two-way service every 15 minutes or better on core routes. Work is already underway on new track, station renovations and infrastructure upgrades on parts of the Lakeshore, Stouffville, Kitchener and Barrie lines. The investment will generate thousands of new jobs and economic opportunities across the region. The ONxpress Civil Joint Venture is comprised of Aecon Infrastructure Management Inc. and FCC Canada Ltd. This multidisciplinary team leads the delivery of civil and track works, leveraging global expertise to introduce innovative solutions across the GO Transit network.    

 

What You’ll Do: 

ONxpress is looking for a Safety Trainer to facilitate different training sessions (virtually and in-person) across the project. The Safety Trainer ensures that safety training is delivered with the highest quality and engagement manner. 

  • Promotes a culture of safety, quality, team participation, and motivation in all aspects of training. 

  • Interfaces with construction and tooling staff to address training requirements and determine appropriate methods of delivery. 

  • Supports resolution of document revisions with the trainers and series leads. 

  • Assists in the development of training material including lesson plans, practical evaluations, and written exams. 

  • Participates in series training review meetings to document training related lessons learned and identify potential subsequent training developments. 

  • Identifies any gaps with HSS (Health, Safety, and Security) and Human Performance training requirements to successfully educate skilled trades in the operation of the refurbishment toolset. 

  • Collaborates with operations and implementation leads to ensure training programs will meet project needs. 

  • Uses available metrics and analysis to identify and drive a continuous improvement training strategy.  

  • Supports identifying technical training requirements and creating material to successfully educate project team members to perform their assigned tasks safely, 

  • efficiently, and effectively.  

  • Is open to supporting other initiatives and activities as required 

 

What You Bring: 

  • Post-secondary education in Health & Safety, Construction, or related field. 

  • 5+ years of construction experience. 

  • Health and Safety certifications and accreditations (e.g. WHMIS, Working at Heights, Train the Trainer programs, Joint Health and Safety Committee) is an asset 

  • A comprehensive understanding and knowledge of legislation including but not limited to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Canadian Standards Association, the Canada Labour Code, and other applicable Health and Safety regulations  

  • Strong interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team.  

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

  • Strong computer and systems skills 

 

Expected compensation for this role is between $80,000-$100,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to multiple factors including skills, experience and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into consideration. In addition to base salary ONxpress also offers a comprehensive medical and dental program, RRSP with company matching and the potential to participate in our discretionary, performance based bonus program.
