ABOUT US
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

 

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Project Quality Manager will report directly to the Quality Director and is responsible for setting up the Aecon Quality organization to support the project team in close cooperation with other Alliance member. Their primary focus is on building systems and processes to achieve outstanding nuclear safety metrics and cost-effective quality operational results in support of building future new Nuclear projects.

 

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
•    Establishes the overall nuclear and conventional graded quality strategies, objectives, and long-term goals of an integrated Quality Assurance function.
•    Champion and promote a culture of nuclear safety and quality within the project teams and disciplines.
•    Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to strategies and policies to sustain safety and quality performance.
•    Maintains strong customer relationships and acts as a liaison with customers to understand and improve Company Quality performance partnerships and understands direction of customer quality strategy.
•    Ensures Quality Assurance processes are effectively deployed including corrective action and investigations. 
•    Responsible for definition of Supply Chain Quality and strategic engagement for supplier partnership on delivery and quality performance.
•    Responsibility for the whole lifecycle manufacturing up to site construction quality assurance implementation
•    Responsible for OSHA and CCOHS compliance and associated safety program components.
•    Responsible for the execution of the internal audit program and compliance strategies and processes and implementation of root cause and corrective action (RCCA) processes.
•    This role will serve as a subject matter expert for process improvement, project management, and change management to drive cross organizational priorities and strategy.
•    Challenges leaders as necessary to develop an action-based culture of continuous improvement and accountability to improve key metrics.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
•    Supervision of all Quality Assurance and Quality Control personnel assigned to the project.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & TRAINING NEEDS
•    Be a champion of inclusion and diversity. 
•    Minimum 5 years experience in a Quality/Manufacturing leadership/management role.
•    Expertise in Quality Assurance Programs and processes
•    Expertise in manufacturing and project quality and delivery environment
•    Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering, Physical Science, or related field.
•    Experience in developing and/or managing audit systems. 
•    Experience managing a robust stakeholder group including client, suppliers, alliance partners, and employees 
•    Continuous improvement and the use of process improvement methodologies
•    Understands design and manufacturing.
•    Understand nuclear quality standards and codes ie. CSA N286, CSA N299, CSA N285, ASME Sect. III
•    Demonstrated ability to translate strategy into business action plans.
•    Nuclear new build experience.

 

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY
•    To maintain departmental costs within budget.

 

EXTENT OF PUBLIC CONTACT
•    Meet with customers, suppliers, and jurisdictional authorities.
•    Meet with unionized supervisors and employees or various disciplines.
•    Interface with Senior Management.
•    Interface with Project and Shop management.

•    Prolonged periods of standing and walking.
•    Project Site Trailer Environment 
•    May be required to enter awkward locations to perform verification activities.
