What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

Reporting to the STP Specialist, The STP Superintendent is responsible for supervising a team of STP operators and technicians, monitoring 1200 m3 Separation and Treatment Plant, Centrifuge, Water Treatment Plant, mixing unit, Lab tests and process parameters, troubleshooting and resolving operational issues. Ensuring smooth and efficient operation through the 3.3 km bored tunnel. The bored tunnel will be done by using a slurry TBM.

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Liaise with STP Specialist to ensure alignment on slurry specifications and supply needs.
  • Conduct regular inspections and repairs to minimize downtime through the shift
  • Setting up, operating and maintaining daily operations of STP.
  • Maintain accurate records of plant operations, maintenance, and material usage for reporting purposes
  • Set up, monitor and organize operation reports for STP, WTP and Centrifuge
  • Supervise the plant team including shift foreman, operators and labors.
  • Ensure all people, equipment, and processes are working in a safe manner meeting all local laws and regulations.
  • Assist the environmental department in obtaining compliance with all environmental permits, laws, and company policies.
  • Develop and ensure consistency of plant processes and best practices throughout the scope.
  • Any other duties as reasonably assigned as part of the scope.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 10-15 years' experience in a similar role or as a STP Supervisor/Superintendent.
  • Experience on 2 to 3 tunnelling projects
  • Experience in the operation of at least 1 project using the type of pressurized face Tunnel Boring Machine being proposed for the work (slurry machine)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office
  • Strong critical thinking skills and communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both oral and written) skills
  • Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
  • Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task/ Service orientated
  • Thrive on a fast-paced environment.
