Currently, Aecon is a major partner for both ongoing refurbishment programs at OPG and Bruce Power, and provides EPC services for many nuclear maintenance projects. We also provides major construction services to the nuclear power market in the US.
Under the general supervision of the Manager of Proposals & Estimating, Bid / Proposal Managers and/or Sr. Civil Estimator the Civil Estimator is responsible to prepare and deliver compliant and comprehensive construction cost estimates, projects risks, assumptions, and clarifications for various civil / architectural scopes as they relate to industrial / nuclear construction projects. The Civil Estimator will be required to develop detailed compilations and summaries of direct construction hours, engage with multiple subcontractors, material suppliers and rental companies and be able to present their results logically and thoroughly to management for approval
What You'll Do Here
• Work effectively in a team environment and support other estimators and mangers in the department
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
• Develop an estimate strategy and scope breakdown structure to support the development of each estimate
• Participation and understanding of both design/build and “build-to-spec” contracts
• Review and interpret project drawings, specifications, lists, and other technical documentation
• Create sketches, drawings to support the estimating process
• Compile RFIs during and/or after the document reviews
• Responsible for the accurate take-off of quantities preparation of detailed estimates while following company policies and estimating procedures
• Utilize construction estimating software to compile detailed estimate information
• Maintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current (accurate) information on prices from suppliers through direct contact, sales brochures, price lists, etc.
• Determine estimated construction durations for job forecasting and project scheduling
• Solicit and review subcontractor quotations, follow-up with scope and pricing clarifications and resolve issues
• Participate in estimate approval meetings with management
• Modify estimates to address addendums and/or scope changes
What You Bring To The Team
• Minimum 5 years of estimating experience within the industrial construction industry on large capital projects
• Civil or Construction Engineering Technologist Diploma or Civil Engineering Degree or Trade Certification or Gold Seal Certificate (Estimating) or equivalent experience
• Ineight Estimate software experience is preferred and knowledge of estimating, and take off programs are beneficial (i.e. Excel, OST Pro, Bluebeam, etc.)
• Exceptional organizational and time management skills
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written
• Common sense, concentration, imagination, ability to read and understand drawings, self-assurance, responsible attitude, and leadership qualities
• Good knowledge of subcontracting processes
• Understanding of unionized trade agreements
• Ability to work in a multi-tasking and multi-disciplined team environment
