Reporting to the Manager, Field and Design Services, the OSP Designer will be responsible for all facets of designing for our existing and perspective Utility Telecommunication clients. 

 

This is a mobile project that requires working in some remote areas within the Treaty 3 territory and Northwestern Ontario (ex. Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden, Fort Frances, Sioux Lookout, Greenstone, Red Lake, Marathon, and Atikokan) in order to perform on-site work.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Design fiber routes and lay-out counts including Feeder and FTTH Distribution.
  • Pole line designs; familiar with ESA 22/04 regulations.
  • Research and define local jurisdictional regulations, coordinate the permit application process, and ensure that design conforms to specifications.
  • Work within defined QA/QC review process to ensure accuracy of final drawings.
  • Oversee projects from the beginning design phase until completion.
  • Act as the point of contact for all homeowners (on behalf of the client), project team members and civil and/or splicing teams.
  • Coordinate between CAD Techs, project team members, and external partners.
  • Conduct field surveys (aerial and underground) 
  • Complete pole line analysis (Spidacalc, QuickPole)
  • Attend customer meetings and perform site surveys or walk-outs as necessary to comply with customer requirements.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 1-2 years of fiber optic design experience is required.
  • Proficient in CAD and software applications used to create engineering designs.
  • Understanding of customer database systems (i.e.. NetX, ipairs, etc.) is an asset
  • Familiarity with using survey data is considered an asset.
  • Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Civil Engineering Technology, Geographic Information Systems or equivalent is an asset.
  • Proficient with the use of computers and software, including MS Office (Word, Visio, Excel).
  • Ability to liaise with customers and clients to resolve any challenges.
  • Excellent verbal, written and communication skills.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Self-motivated, ability to learn new skills and adapt.
