What is the Opportunity? 

Reporting the EHS Director, the EHS Manager will be responsible for leading the implementation of Aecon’s health and safety program at the project level, and leading the safety culture on site. The Manager will oversee a team of Advisors while working alongside the senior management team to ensure that the project’s occupational health and safety goals are met. We have multiple positions open to service current and future work throughout Western Canada. This position is a full-time opportunity that will be project based.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Work collaboratively with operations to ensure work is completed according to safe work procedures and that Aecon’s safety program is implemented at all levels of the project.
  • Provide site specific safety training and orientations.
  • Develop and train supervisors and staff on Aecon’s Health and Safety programs
  • Review project plans and the work site before work commences, identifying safety-related risks and developing strategies to migrate any of those risks.
  • Inspect the project site to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and the general public.
  • Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on the project site.
  • Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures.
  • Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Represent project at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

What you bring to the team:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of OH&S legislation and regulations.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent preferred.
  • Background in Training and/or Education and or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of disability management and return-to-work programs.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with various project stakeholders from subcontractors, clients, the workforce and project leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record  

 

The expected pay range for this position is $110,000 - $120,000.
