Traffic Manager

Position Overview
SA Energy Group is a General Partnership between Robert B. Somerville and Aecon Utilities, a division of Aecon Construction Group. SA Energy Group provides mainline pipeline construction services to the Canadian Oil and Gas industry. We have a strong project backlog and our successes are well documented having constructed over 1000 km of large diameter pipeline over the past 7 years.

Under the supervision of the Project Manager and Superintendent, the Traffic Manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Traffic Manager Plan and Traffic Control Plans during construction of the project.

This is a temporary full-time position.  The work schedule will be 6 days on (Monday – Saturday) and 1 day off (Sunday), 10-12 hours per day.  The employment term shall be dependent on the duration of the current project and future project workload.

The position will be based out of SA Energy Group’s Project Offices in Vanvenby, BC.


Key Responsibilities

  • Accountable for maintaining project wide compliance to the Traffic Management Plan and project commitments including meeting WorkSafe BC and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop, update and implement the TMP, Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and other related traffic plans/documents.
  • Verify that all traffic control personnel are trained and qualified for the work and that traffic control arrangements are installed in accordance with the TCPs.
  • Ensure quality control of the work site with respect to traffic control and perform the role of traffic quality manager.
  • Review and submit Lane Closure Request as required in accordance with the project procedures.
  • Oversee the implementation and management of traffic control designs.
  • Work collaboratively with SA Energy Group’s Project Team to ensure safe and efficient project execution.
  • Provide and/or arrange for supplemental training as required.
  • Communicate with Client site TM to ensure alignment on traffic related matters.
  • Define high safety concerns for the project and the Safety Management Team with the develop of the Project Risk Assessment
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Managing all field traffic control personnel including the Traffic Control Supervisor and Traffic Field Engineer as required.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience with implementation of urban traffic management plans.
  • Field experience in BC is an asset.
  • Completion of the BC Construction Safety Alliance (BCCSA) Standardized Traffic Control Training or equivalent.
  • Must possess and demonstrate excellent computer skills; highly proficient in Microsoft Office software i.e.; Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Desire to take ownership of tasks assigned and willingness to learn.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member and team leader.
  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s license.
  • Pipeline construction experience is preferred.
