What is the Opportunity? 

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the construction of Canada’s first Small Modular Reactor on the SMR-X Project. Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase, design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

 

As a Testing and Turnover Manager, you will be responsible for safe and successful delivery of Commissioning activities for projects in our nuclear business. Working as a member of the Project team you will support the business in defining the strategy for bringing new plant and equipment into operation. The role will require interaction with project teams and a wide range of people across the business, and external partners, to manage shared resources and interdependencies.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
  • Lead the development of the Commissioning strategy.
  • Plan, scope, and detail all Commissioning activity scheduled for the New Nuclear Projects.
  • Proactively monitor progress against the plan and schedule, resolving issues and initiating corrective action as appropriate.
  • Carrying out plant walk-downs and on-plant work to support Installation, Commissioning activities.
  • Ensuring all Commissioning & Pre-Operations tasks are carried out safely and in accordance with the relevant Commissioning, work management, safe system of work and risk assessment processes.
  • Ensuring all Commissioning work is carried out in accordance with the relevant Engineering and Commissioning processes and management system documents.
  • Effectively manage day-to-day liaison with plant stakeholders to obtain all the necessary work execution and plant isolation permissions to allow Installation & Commissioning work to be progressed.
  • Production, selection, checking, development, and delivery of optimized fit for purpose engineering, and Commissioning solutions balancing aspects of safety and environmental performance, operational effectiveness, and constructability.
  • Supporting the close-out of engineering related actions and audits.
  • Ensure design intent is realized and maintained throughout Installation, Commissioning & Pre-Operations activities.
  • Identifying appropriate engineering standards and practices to be used for the delivery of Commissioning and Pre-Operations work.
  • Maintaining technical competence and currency with respect to modern standards and methodologies relevant to Commissioning practices.
  • Promoting and facilitating best practice and the sharing of design, engineering and commissioning LFE across the Nuclear business.
  • Participation in engineering study meetings, design reviews, Hazard and Operability (HAZOP), Hazards in Construction (HAZCON), Design Authority Technical Reviews, Document Review Committees, as required.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Professional Engineer (PEng) or equivalent appropriate professional qualification.
  • Prior experience acting as a Commissioning engineer on process systems and equipment; relevant experience and training in the Commissioning of systems and equipment and all safety and plant isolation aspects of Commissioning.
  • Broad knowledge of industry consensus standards, processes, procedures and methods relevant to Commissioning areas with a full understanding of underlying principles.
  • Proven ability to manage and prioritize own workload against multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Ability to ensure minimum standards and fundamental process requirements are maintained when under pressure to deliver and ability to challenge others at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Due to the nature of work conducted by Aecon, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment
