Position Overview

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) has awarded Aecon with a US$126 million contract to design and build the Interstate-90 (I-90)/State Road-18 (SR-18) to Deep Creek Interchange Improvements and widening near Snoqualmie, Washington. The scope of work includes the design and construction of a four-lane diverging diamond interchange, the widening of SR-18 to four lanes from the interchange to Deep Creek, as well as the design and construction of a four-lane bridge over Lake Creek, a four-lane bridge over Deep Creek, and a two-lane bridge over Raging River. Construction commences in spring of 2023 and is scheduled for completion by end of 2024.
As a senior member of the project team and reporting to the Construction Manager, the Drainage Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring that all project drainage construction is managed efficiently and delivered in accordance with the contract requirements and meets or exceeds the project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote, lead and execute a Safety-Integrated culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with the project’s Environmental Health and Safety Program.
- Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments and mentorship with crew.
- Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
- Track and report project resource requirements.
- Drive and motivate quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews.
- Direct Foremen on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges and sustain outperforming work activities.
- Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
- Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
- Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
- Work with the Construction Manager to identify equipment and labor resource requirements.
- Work with the Construction Manager and Leads to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
- Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
- Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
- Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include:
- Daily quality control inspections and checklists.
- Record and report of violations or disciplinary actions.
- HSE inspections and reports.
- Project specific forms/inspections/tracking as required.
- Review and approval of daily field logs.
- Reviewing field log with the Project manager/Leads to ensure accuracy of phase codes and reported items.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry with experience in heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience with drainage including layout, trenching, installation and testing; earthworks, and grading.
- Traffic control management experience.
- Experience working on a large, multi-disciplinary teams is an asset.
- Managing a diverse group of Subcontractors.
- Experience coordinating with public project owners to comply with Local Agency and environmental issues and requirements.
- Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate in a timely and effective manner with the public and project stakeholders.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
- Environmental Stewardship – experience working in and around environmentally sensitive areas including wetlands, streams, mature forests, and high-quality habitat.
- Field Quality Control.
- Certified TCS an asset.
- CESCL an asset.
