Position Overview
Aecon-EAC Highway 8 General Partnership (“AEGP8”), a 50/50 consortium between Aecon and Emil Anderson Construction, has been selected by the Province of British Columbia to deliver the Highway 8 Project under a progressive alliance contract model. AEGP8 will work as an integrated team with the province during a development phase to finalize the design, scope and target cost of the project, with construction expected to commence in the second quarter of 2025 and completion expected in late 2026. The scope of work includes replacing two temporary structures with permanent bridges and building approximately 3 kilometres of connecting highway approximately 15 kilometres east of Spences Bridge to improve safety and climate resiliency.
Reporting to the Project Manager or designate, the Concrete Superintendent is responsible to provide leadership, supervision and able to coordinate day to day field operations. This includes ensuring the safety of crew members, ensuring the productivity of crew members, following OH&S and Company policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Superintendent is a key participant in the relationship between the company, the workforce, other contractors, the client, and all other project stakeholders. The Superintendent is required to act in a professional manner that will strengthen these relationships in a positive way. This is a local site-based position located near Spences Bridge, BC. LOA will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Promote, lead and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors and consultants in compliance with the project’s Environmental Health and Safety Program and provincial occupational health and safety legislation.
- Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
- Provide guidance to team members by leading safety meetings and inspections.
- Track and report project, quality control, resource requirements
- Drive quality, efficiency and productivity of work crews.
- Direct Foremen on productivity issues and monitor the work performance, working with the Foreman and crews to overcome challenges.
- Follow project plans and budget while ensuring the Superintendent, Foreman and crews perform to meet production goals.
- Assist the Foreman to translate drawings, specifications and work requirements into a prioritized work plan.
- Understand the scope and sequencing of work, plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
- Work with the Construction Manager to identify equipment and labour resource requirements.
- Work with the Construction Manager to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
- Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building.
- Ensure work completed meets quality standards, that preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed.
- Oversee the approval of daily production records and reporting on work progress, these include:
- Daily quality control inspections and checklists.
- Record and report of violations or disciplinary actions.
- HSE inspections and reports.
- Project specific forms/inspections/tracking as required.
- Approving field log each day and ensuring submittal of field log for each Foreman is completed daily.
- Reviewing field log with the Project manager/Leads to ensure accuracy of phase codes and reported items.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry with experience in heavy civil infrastructure projects, specifically bridges.
- 5 plus years of experience with concrete, rebar, and formwork.
- Bridge deck construction in BC is a plus.
- Experience directly managing subcontractors with a focus on safety.
- Experience working on a large, multi-disciplinary, joint venture team is an asset.
- Experience
- Knowledge of WCB & OHS British Columbia legislation.
- Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Must have a valid Drivers License.
- Ability to work the project schedule which may include night shifts and weekends.
The expected pay range for this position is $140,000 - $160,000.
