Reporting to the Field Manager, the Project Technician will focus on Indigenous relations to support our construction projects across Ontario. The Project Technician will be responsible for all facets of design drafting and field survey QC assistance. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with cultural, environmental, and regulatory standards, and foster positive relationships with Indigenous communities.
What You'll Do Here:
• Completion of basic design to moderate design drawings, quantity calculations and as-built drawings for various types of utility projects using various software packages (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation, SPIDA Calc, PLS-CADD, IKE Office, Pull Planner and AGi32) with the support of leadership.
• Ability to solve regular challenges while complex problems are supported through senior team members for assistance.
• Conduct site visits to identify and address potential impacts on Indigenous lands and resources, and effectively communicate concerns to the project team.
• Collaborating with Project Designers and Project Engineers to ensure accuracy of drawings.
• Working with permit drawings and city websites to understand the full scope of the drawing.
• Liaises with Project Designers, Project Engineers, Project Coordinator and Field Inspectors to problem solve.
• Manage project schedules and deliverables with support from senior team members.
• Responsible for quality of project deliverables and completion of projects within budget, tracking project hours and strategically staying within designated hours.
• Complete a quality check on field captures to ensure all required items have been recorded.
• Process field captures conducted by the Field Inspectors.
What You Bring to the Team:
• Post-secondary education in Electrical/Civil Engineering or Architectural program, would be considered an asset.
• Minimum one year experience working on utility projects, specifically telecommunications, hydro and gas, with specific experience in Indigenous relations is preferred.
• High proficiency with AutoCAD software and experience customizing AutoCAD, scripts, tools, and Menu’s.
• Minimum one year of MicroStation drafting experience.
• Willingness to travel to First Nation communities.
• Maintain a valid provincial driver’s license in good standing.
• Familiarity with Indigenous rights, and land use policies.
• Knowledge of easements is a must.
• Knowledge of how to read PIN maps is considered an asset.
• Basic understanding of pole line analysis is considered an asset.
• Good understanding of how to read electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans.
• Familiarity with the CSA standards is considered an asset.
• Proficient with the use of computers and software, including MS Office (Word, Excel).
• Excellent safety and attendance record and previously demonstrated strong safety awareness.
• Superior interpersonal and communication skills, in both written and verbal contexts.
