Program Overview

The ADT program supports construction trades workers that identify as Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC). The ADT program operates within Aecon’s Civil East division – a diverse, comprehensive market leader focused on expanding and improving Canada’s infrastructure and transportation networks. Aecon Civil is a market leader with a self-perform competitive advantage and core local strength in key markets. This includes numerous public entities and Public-Private Partnerships in Canada and abroad. Reporting to the appropriate site supervisor, the Labour/General Labour will be responsible to ensure the achievement of general and specific project requirements.


Hands on Training and Orientation

  • An introduction to Aecon, our industry, and the Civil East sector.
  • In partnership with LiUNA 183 we will offer: All requisite health and safety training; Valuable job-specific skills training; Preparing for work on site and job readiness training Job placement in Labour/General Labour within our construction teams.


The Opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on skills and industry experience.
  • Connect and network with other BIPOC trainees in the ADT program and across Aecon.
  • Participate in debrief and evaluation sessions.


Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, maintain and clean up construction sites.
  • Move materials and equipment and perform excavation, grading, compaction and various civil activities.
  • Handle and distribute construction materials (e.g. load and unload vehicles with supplies, equipment and construction materials; move tools, equipment and construction materials to and from work    areas; remove debris and excess material).
  • Excavate, backfill and compact subgrade (e.g. move and prepare grade using shovels and rakes, operate pneumatic tampers).
  • Assemble shoring, barricades, signage, and miscellaneous environmental controls at construction sites.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.


Required Knowledge and Experience.

  • A safety-conscious attitude.
  • The ability to work with others in a team.
  • Physical strength and stamina.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to use stairs, ladders, and climb over rough terrain.
  • Ability to work long hours per day sometimes in rough weather conditions.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license (G Class) and ability to travel.
  • DZ license is a strong asset.
  • Please note that this position is unionized, therefore it will be a requirement to join the union prior to acceptance.
  • Construction experience is an asset.
  • Must be eligible to work in Canada.
