What You’ll Do Here:

 

  • Interact and provide updates to Telecom Companies for the construction and maintenance of Fiber Optic and Copper Network.
  • Access back yards or customer property to place self supported aerial drops, or buried service wires. 
  • Installation of aerial fiber optic or copper cable using required pole hardware.
  • Pull cable by hand or with mechanical equipment.
  • Ensure all safety signs, cones, barriers, etc. are in good shape and on the truck.
  • Set up and work safely on high traffic roads according to Book 7 standards.
  • Check timesheets and documentation to ensure accuracy of time reporting.
  • Review monthly vehicle inspections and in-depth knowledge of CVOR requirements.  Complete circle checks on CVOR vehicles and fill out all required logbooks
  • Approach all customers in a courteous, professional manner ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Apply due diligence in ensuring accuracy in preparation and prompt completion of all necessary documentation (surveys, timesheets, drawings, as-builds, billing, and toolbox talks).
  • Participate in all Health and Safety efforts including daily tailboard talks with Aerial crews.
  • Excavate using methods by hand-dig/mini excavator
  • Hand spading of copper and fibre service wires
  • Basic Knowledge and operating skills of mini excavator and vibratory plows considered an asset.
  • Able to read locates and verify utility markings (gas, hydro, communications. Water, sewer, etc.)
  • Work closely with the project coordinator for overall planning, scheduling, material needs and equipment requirements
  • Provide daily updates digitally on the progress of the job.
  • Promotes, supports, and facilitates teamwork between all construction crews by promoting and fostering a positive, visible teamwork attitude among all project crews, regardless experience level
  • Represents Aecon in a positive and respectful manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 
What You Bring to the Team:

 

  • Experience using Bucket trucks, climbing poles using spurs or ladders.
  • Hands on experience with all pole hardware.
  • Experience placing poles, down guys, anchors, and vertical ground wires.
  • Ability to read locates.
  • A strong commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently or as a part of a crew to perform all types of Outside Plant aerial construction and maintenance/repair work.
  • Strong work ethic, self-disciplined, motivated, and organized.
  • Familiar with handling of fiber and copper cables.
  • Utility or Telecommunications construction experience.
  • Basic Knowledge of pneumatic and belt driven cable jetting machines
  • Mechanically inclined and able to properly maintain equipment
  • FTTH, copper, fiber experience is an asset.
  • Valid Driver’s License, AZ or DZ a strong asset with a clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Physical strength and stamina, the ability to carry and climb a twenty-eight-foot extension ladder weighing 80 pounds.
  • Work in all weather conditions, day, night, or weekends with possible overnight stays.
  • Travel required.

  • Represents Aecon in a positive and respectful manner
  • Able to set up traffic plans required to keep the crew safe for daily tasks.
  • Complete circle checks on CVOR vehicles and fill out all required logbooks
