Project Quality Assurance Specialist

Position Overview

Our Concessions segment activities include the development, financing, design, building, and operation of construction projects. We do this by way of public-private partnership contract structures, as well as by integrating the services of all project participants and harnessing the many strengths and capabilities of Aecon. The industry-leading Concessions segment focuses primarily on the development of domestic and international P3 projects, private finance solutions, investment and management services, operations and maintenance, and leading/actively participating in development teams.


We are currently seeking a Project Quality Assurance Specialist to join the Gordie Howe International Bridge Project Company. The Project Quality Assurance Specialist is the individual retained by the Project Company to carry out quality assurance and quality system-related activities, including the continuous support for the implementation, maintenance of, improvement, and compliance monitoring of the Quality Management System.  This position reports into the Lead Quality Manager and interfaces with the Project Quality Coordinators.  The Project Quality Assurance Specialist has no project responsibilities other than quality assurance activities and is detached from duties associated with the execution/production of the work.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support in the development, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the Quality Management System and its various processes
  • Monitor the effectiveness of the operation of the Quality Management System
  • Monitor the effectiveness of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Facilitate quality assurance related training and workshops
  • Prepare KPIs, statistical and trend analysis of the Quality Management System performance
  • Develop and maintain databases for Corrective Actions, Continual Improvement initiatives, OFIs, Lessons Leaned, Best Practices, Quality Risk Log, etc.
  • Assist coordination of ISO 9001 certification matters
  • Support implementation, delivery, and improvement of the Project Quality Audit Program. Conduct technical review of audit findings
  • Liaise with Quality Coordinators on matters relating to quality assurance
  • Monitor process for management of Quality Records to ensure records are maintained and retained in accordance with the Quality Management System and the Records Management Protocol
  • Monitor process for management of Non-Compliances. Facilitate the implementation of Root Cause Analysis tools. Assist monitoring effectiveness of implemented of Corrective Actions. Assist technical review and closing of Non-Compliance Reports
  • Assist carrying out any other matters in accordance with the Project Agreement and/or Good Industry Practice.


Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, along with at least 5 years of quality assurance experience on P3 and/or design-build projects
  • Demonstrated experience in data management, trend analysis, and fair understanding and application of statistics concepts
  • Demonstrated equivalent experience in a similar quality assurance role for a similar, successful project, with emphasis on a variety of experiences including Infrastructure projects
  • Training in the use and application of quality management systems including ISO 9001:2015
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor Course is preferred
  • Knowledge of relational databases such as Microsoft Access, SQL, or similar is preferred
