Position Title:  Assistant Superintendent

 

Who We Are:

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

 

As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Assistant Superintendent to join our team.

 

What You Will Do:

  • Assist in managing day-to-day site operations and construction activities.
  • Plan and supervise the work of subcontractors and own forces on the project including determining methods of construction, manpower levels, material quantities, equipment and work schedules.
  • Assume responsibility for productivity of subtrades, efficient use of materials and equipment and contractual performance of the project.
  • Understand the scope and sequencing of work and plan and prioritize the work, effectively redirecting crews and equipment to assigned tasks and minimize downtime on sites.
  • Ensure project is constructed in compliance with drawings, specifications, project schedule and budget.
  • Interface with client representatives, design consultants, other contractors, etc.
  • Ensure project is constructed within project quality guidelines.
  • Maintain appropriate field documentation including safety records, daily progress reports, rental records, concrete logs, as-built drawings, etc.
  • Supervise, mentor, coach and train project personnel.
  • Organize and chair weekly subcontractor and safety meetings.
  • Promote safety in all activities and engage in safe work plan development, hazard assessments, FLRAs and mentorship with crew.
  • Participate in basic layout and field engineering activities.
  • Work with the Project Manager to periodically reassess daily goals to meet forecasted production, schedules and budgets.
  • Complete daily quality control inspections and checklists.
  • Complete HSE inspections and reports.
  • Record and report violations or disciplinary actions.
  • Review Foremen records and track all rental items, ensuring returns are completed and documented.

 

Experience You Will Bring:

  • Diploma or Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in a supervisory position in the construction industry, preferably on large scale rail or infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Building Code, construction methods, trade coordination, safety procedures and labour relations in a unionized work environment.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and construction scheduling tools (Primavera P6, MS Project).
  • Exceptional ability to multitask in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Must have a valid class G driver’s license.
  • Flexibility to work the project schedule which may include overtime, weekends and/or night shift as required.

Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000 annually. The listed salary range reflects potential base pay and considers factors such as experience, education, and training. Each candidate is evaluated individually and offers toward the higher end may be extended to those with exceptional qualifications.
