Position Title:  Environmental Inspector

 

Who We Are:

Scarborough Transit Connect (STC) is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.

 

As part of this project, we are currently looking for an Environmental Inspector to join our team.

What You Will Do:

The Environmental Inspector reports to the Environmental Compliance Officer and is responsible for ensuring conformance of the works with the Environmental Management System (EMS) at multiple sites across the Scarborough Subway Extension alignment. The Environmental Inspector will be based full time on-site at the project and their role includes the following:

  • Conduct daily monitoring and inspections on all aspects of the Works in accordance with the EMS.
  • Maintain a log of monitoring and inspection events, which shall include photographic evidence to support the observations recorded during such monitoring and inspection events.
  • Complete monitoring and inspection reports and provide to the Environmental Compliance Officer and as part of the Monthly Environmental Report. Assist with client comments and queries on reports.
  • Review weekly air quality and noise and vibration reports and proposed mitigations and advise/monitor construction teams accordingly.
  • Attend construction meeting and provide advice and recommendations for improving environmental protection and correcting any inefficient practices and/or issues of non-compliance within 24 hours of noticing a potential issue.
  • Prepare non-conformance reports, spill reports, and other environmental incident reports, and notify regulatory authorities as required and follow-up with them on corrective actions taken.
  • Interface with environmental subconsultants as required.
  • Assist with collecting environmental samples and measurements, including soil, groundwater, stormwater discharge, dust, noise and tree protection zones.
  • Assist environmental team members with other reporting such as annual compliance reports and environmental trackers.
  • Willing and able to respond to evening and weekend calls, as required.
  • Additional tasks as defined by the Environmental Compliance Officer, Environmental Manager, or Environmental Director.

 

Experience You Will Bring:

  • A diploma or a bachelor or advanced degree in an environmental related discipline (ecology/biology/environmental science) from a recognized post-secondary institution.
  • A minimum of three to five years of demonstrated work experience in all aspects of environmental monitoring and mitigation during roadway construction or construction of transit infrastructure, specifically with respect to work in and around watercourses and in the application and correction of erosion and sedimentation control measures, reporting Spills and the containment of effluent and dust during construction.
  • Certification as a Canadian Certified Inspector of Sediment and Erosion Control (CAN-CISEC), or have proven proficiency in observing, inspecting and reporting on the implementation of Erosion and Sediment Control Plans.
  • Full Canadian driver's license with a clear drivers abstract.
  • Familiar with Microsoft products including Word, Excel and Powepoint.
