Position Title: Field Engineer
Who We Are:
STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.
As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Field Engineer to join our team. The Field Engineer will be responsible for supporting construction delivery with a focus on technical coordination, field engineering support, and quality and safety compliance.
What You Will Do:
- Provide technical expertise to support day‑to‑day construction activities, including piling, excavation, dewatering, concrete works, grading, utility relocations, and early‑works scope.
- Interpret and apply engineering drawings, specifications, standards, and contract documents; identify constructability issues and recommend solutions.
- Prepare and review sketches, work plans, RFIs, and construction documentation to ensure accuracy and alignment with project requirements.
- Support value‑engineering initiatives to improve functionality, reduce cost, and maintain schedule.
- Participate in technical problem‑solving with designers, subcontractors, and construction teams to resolve discrepancies or unforeseen site conditions.
- Coordinate daily field activities with subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams to maintain workflow and resolve interface issues.
- Assist in developing and maintaining construction schedules and sequencing for assigned work areas.
- Monitor progress, cost, quantity tracking, and inventory to ensure alignment with project targets.
- Conduct site inspections and quality checks to verify workmanship complies with project standards, codes, and safety regulations.
- Identify deficiencies and track corrective actions to closure.
- Ensure adherence to policies, standards, and procedures, including environmental and regulatory requirements.
- Promote and enforce safe work practices in alignment with the project H&S standards and legislative requirements.
- Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and incident reporting as required.
- Maintain accurate daily records of site activities, progress, changes, and issues.
- Prepare reports, updates, and communications for project management and stakeholders.
- Support development of turnover documentation, as‑built records, and design updates.
Experience You Will Bring:
- Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or related discipline.
- 3+ years of experience in civil construction, preferably in large‑scale infrastructure, transit, or multidisciplinary projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, surveying principles, materials, and equipment.
- Ability to proactively identify and document any problems/conflicts and effectively manage and resolve them.
- Proficiency with MS Office and project/engineering software such as AutoCAD, MS Project, Bluebeam, or similar tools.
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated problem‑solving skills and the ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with shifting priorities.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and adaptable to flexible work schedule as required to meet deadlines.

Compensation: $75,000 - $90,000 annually. The listed salary range reflects potential base pay and considers factors such as experience, education, and training. Each candidate is evaluated individually and offers toward the higher end may be extended to those with exceptional qualifications.
