Position Title: Health & Safety Advisor - Evening Shift
Who We Are:
STC is a joint venture between Aecon and FCC Canada Ltd. that was selected by Metrolinx to deliver the Scarborough Subway Extension – Stations, Rail and Systems (SSE-SRS) package. The Scarborough Subway Extension will bring the TTC’s Line 2 subway service nearly eight kilometers farther into Scarborough. It will extend from Kennedy Station to Sheppard Avenue and McCowan Road, providing quick and seamless transit for those heading into and out of the downtown core and those travelling within Scarborough. The extension will replace Line 3 (the Scarborough RT), helping to reduce travel times and improve access to jobs, schools, and other key destinations throughout the city.
As part of this project, we are currently looking for a Health & Safety Advisor - Evening Shift to join our team.
What You Will Do:
- Administer the EHS Program.
- Promote the highest level of safety throughout the project.
- Provide direction and support for managers, supervisors, sub-contractors regarding their responsibilities.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive safety culture.
- Ensure all workplace parties fulfill their responsibilities for the EHS program.
- Conduct safety orientation for workers, owners and clients. Participate in “pre-planning” stages of work.
- Assist in the management of worker’s compensation claims.
- Conduct workplace safety audits and inspections.
- Walk project site with workers, owners, and other stakeholders safety representatives to assess safety and to address deficiencies.
- Conduct hazard assessments and control activities, providing coaching when necessary.
- Investigate accidents and incidents and produce timely investigation reports.
Experience You Will Bring:
- 5 years’ experience in construction Health and Safety.
- Experience in preparing for COR or ISO 45001 audits
- Health and safety certification such as National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP), Gold Seal Certificate (GSC), graduate or undergraduate degree or diploma in related field, or equivalent.
- Have good working knowledge of Occupational Health (OHSA) and Safety legislation and Workers’ Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) policies.
- Experience as a Liaison with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and general public.
- Experience co-chairing a Joint Health and Safety Committee.
- Experience presenting project Orientations and Site-Specific Orientations for small and large groups.
- Experience in the preparation and review of policies and procedures.
- Ability to procure and managing safety supplies.
- Experienced in investigating workplace incidents.
- Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Detailed understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities is vital.
- Experience across all stages of a project lifecycle within complex infrastructure project would be desirable
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
- Proven experience in priority setting, multitasking, and working with minimal direct supervision.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, judgment, and act proactively.
- High degree of organizational skills.
- Ability to travel to sites and mobile for projects.
- Valid G drivers’ license
- Ability to work off business hours, including weekends
