What Is The Opportunity?
ONxpress Transportation Partners (ONxpress) were chosen by Metrolinx and Infrastructure Ontario (IO) to enter the Development Phase of the On-Corridor Works project – the largest project in Metrolinx’s GO Expansion.
Unprecedented in its scale and complexity, this multi-billion-dollar capital program will transform the GO regional rail network with electrification, more frequent service, shorter journey times and a more modernized system for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area. As part of this transformational project, Aecon is looking for an EHS Manager.
What You Will Do Here:
- Provide strategic leadership in identifying hazards and implementing control measures for all site activities.
- Develop and implement comprehensive incident management and health, safety, and security plans based on detailed risk assessments, ensuring full compliance with safety regulations.
- Foster a proactive safety culture where safety is a core value integrated into all aspects of the organization.
- Ensure full compliance with all health, safety, environmental, system safety, and quality regulations established by various levels of government and agencies.
- Lead risk management initiatives by documenting, assessing, and mitigating risks, and developing robust mitigation plans when risk elimination is not possible.
- Champion a robust continuous improvement program, identifying key areas for enhancement and ensuring continuous improvement is embedded in all business processes.
- Innovate and support the implementation of new preventative and corrective maintenance concepts to enhance safety and operational efficiency.
- Develop, monitor, and adjust key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure best-in-class performance, providing strategic insights and recommendations.
- Produce high-quality periodic reports and analyses, investigating significant accidents and ensuring timely communication of findings and recommendations.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
What You Bring To The Team:
- Completion of a diploma or degree in Engineering, Business Administration/Operations, Transportation, or a related field—or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent.
- 10+ years of senior safety experience in a construction or rail environments.
- Experience with HOP (Human Operational Performance) and SIF is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of the International ISO norms.
- In-depth understanding of Ontario Provincial legislation and acts.
- Familiarity with the Canadian method for risk evaluation and assessment for railway systems.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a proven track record in leading and mobilizing successful teams.
- Extensive knowledge and demonstrated application of relevant regulatory requirements.
- A strong ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment, with a strong capability to create new systems, policies, and procedures efficiently.
- A quick response attitude and ability to act decisively with limited resources.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work under pressure to meet challenging deadlines.
- Affinity with technical and commercial terms for contract management.
- Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce in intercultural environments.
- Respectful and appreciative interaction with all stakeholders and team members.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
