Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.
Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.
We are actively recruiting an EHS Advisor to support our project in Antigua. The EHS Advisor is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining health and safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment on site.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Provide site specific safety training, orientation and demonstrate the use of safety equipment.
- Train employees on the Health, Safety and Environmental Manual
- Train and co-ordinate training for employees (e.g. working around mobile equipment, respiratory protection, emergency response, WHMIS)
- Maintain worksite safety plans – such as emergency plans, environmental or site safety plans.
- Distribution of safety material supplies and equipment.
- Conduct workplace inspections, behaviour-based observations and audits.
- Support project specific conventional safety and environmental management plans and procedures including workplace inspections, behaviour-based obserations, audits, coaching and JHSC.
- Update Safety Data Sheet records as required.
- Fire extinguisher inspections monthly.
- Inspect active project sites to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Conduct studies and analyse EHS data trends.
- Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine, recommend and monitor corrective/preventive action plans.
- Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.
- Coordination of environmental issues.
- Coordination of security issues.
- Gather and provide EHS based statistics.
- Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
What You Bring to The Team:
- Degree, diploma or certificates in Health, Safety and Environment or related experience.
- 3-5 years’ experience in health and safety on civil/heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience in working on civil infrastructure, specifically airport or building projects is preferred
- Background in Training and/or Education and/or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal, and written communication skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills
- Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills
- Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record.
