What is the Opportunity?
Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a Construction Package at the Savannah River Site in Aiken, South Carolina. We are seeking a Quality Control Inspector to support construction activities by ensuring work is performed in accordance with applicable codes, standards, specifications, and quality program requirements. The successful candidate will play a key role in verifying compliance, documenting inspections, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety are maintained throughout project execution.

 

Citizenship Requirement: This position requires access to nuclear facilities and information governed by U.S. federal regulations. As a result, applicants must be U.S. citizens to meet eligibility and site access requirements.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Perform inspections in accordance with the applicable code of construction and/or customer specifications.
  • Perform dimensional inspections.
  • Perform concrete inspections.
  • Perform rebar and coupler inspections.
  • Review Material Test Reports.
  • Perform receiving inspections.
  • Follow and maintain Inspection and Test Plans or Travelers.
  • Verify American Concrete Institute (ACI) codes and specifications.
  • Perform source inspections, in-process inspections, and final inspections.
  • Complete all associated documentation, including Quality Control reports, sign-off on drawings, and creation of as-built drawings.
  • Coordinate with engineers, suppliers, subcontractors, regulatory representatives, and field personnel to ensure work is completed correctly.
  • Assure work on-site meets applicable codes and specifications.
  • Conduct surveillance and audits of site Contractor Quality Control Programs.
  • Adhere to inspection plans and procedures and track inspections and actions identified.
  • Verify and/or perform site testing such as soils testing, concrete placement and grout breaks, hydro tests, and verify tests are properly documented.
  • Review and control documentation for the use certification of construction equipment and material and testing equipment.
  • Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
  • Review turnover packages prior to handoff to Startup.
  • Assist in the coordination of punch list walkdowns and inspections.
  • Establish and manage punch lists.
  • Collate Quality Control documentation for final handover to the Owner.
  • Interface with clients and government officials.
  • Implement and adhere to quality programs that assist projects and the division in meeting company and division quality goals and expectations.
  • Provide supervision, training, development, and performance management of direct reports.
  • Act as a mentor to other quality professionals.
  • Implement Safety, Quality, Ethical Standards, Lessons Learned, and adhere to Performance Management programs in accordance with Division Policies, Standards, and Guidelines.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts and the change management effects associated with the implementation of improvements.
  • Track nonconformance reports and corrective/preventative action requests.
  • Identify and document defects or non-conformities and work with the construction team to implement corrective actions.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Graduate secondary school education in Civil Construction QA/QC or a related discipline at the university or college level, or a minimum of 3 years of work experience in a QA/QC role.
  • NQA-1 experience.
  • ACI Certification and/or verified concrete experience would be an asset.
  • Current Level II certification and/or capability of being certified as a Level II Civil or Receipt Inspector through our program.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Office.
  • Previous experience in nuclear quality program implementation and oversight.
  • Ability to pass a physical, lift 50 lbs., climb scaffolds and ladders, enter confined spaces, work at heights, wear a full-body harness, and wear a respirator and Personal Protective Equipment (as needed).
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Civil construction experience, including cast-in-place concrete and reinforcing steel.
  • Must be able to access the Savannah River Site unescorted.
  • Complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training.
  • Ability to work on an established schedule, report to work on time, and be flexible to support projects.
