What is the Opportunity?
Aecon is seeking a Technical Director to join the Urban Transportation Solutions group to support dynamic, transit projects in North America. We are proud to support projects that are committed to faster and more convenient travel, ultimately improving transportation experiences. This starts with bringing aboard the best possible team!
As a Technical Director, you will be accountable for ensuring all construction project management activities are successfully executed for major transportation rail/transit projects.
PS: This project is based in the state of Texas.
What You'll Do Here:
- Project Leadership & Oversight
- Lead the development and execution of comprehensive project plans for major rail infrastructure initiatives, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation, ensuring alignment with regulatory and client standards.
- Oversee all phases of the project lifecycle—from concept through commissioning—by leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and ensuring technical excellence.
- Monitor project financials, track expenditures, and conduct variance analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
- Identify and mitigate technical, schedule, and budget risks, while reporting progress and key risks to executive stakeholders and investment committees.
- Design & Technical Management
- Establish and manage frameworks and standards for technical and design processes throughout the project lifecycle, influencing major Design-Build infrastructure projects.
- Ensure all designs are compliant, safe, constructible, and optimized for total project cost efficiency.
- Manage the Design Management team in meeting all technical requirements, ensuring timely delivery of compliant, efficient, and cost-effective designs.
- Oversee design activities to ensure construction aligns with approved designs and technical specifications.
- Construction & Commissioning
- Collaborate with construction and management teams on subcontractor selection and procurement of materials, services, and consultations.
- Supervise construction activities, including testing, commissioning, and handover, ensuring all deliverables meet contractual and operational requirements.
- Lead the transition from construction to operations, including systems integration, staff training, and operational testing.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Communication
- Serve as the primary technical liaison with key stakeholders such as transit authorities, government agencies, contractors, and community representatives to ensure alignment with project scope and expectations.
- Produce and present technical reports, progress updates, and design documentation to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Compliance, Innovation & Culture
- Ensure all design and construction activities comply with applicable codes, standards, and environmental regulations.
- Address technical challenges and facilitate collaborative solutions among stakeholders.
- Identify and implement best practices to enhance project delivery, safety, and sustainability.
- Foster an inclusive culture that promotes equity, values diverse perspectives, and supports career progression through a strong sense of belonging.
What You Will Bring To The Team:
- Post-secondary education in engineering, construction management, or equivalent discipline.
- Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in civils construction, track, buildings, Utilities, M&E, or related disciplines is required.
- Proven experience managing large, complex rail or transit infrastructure projects in a client-facing role.
- communication skills.
- Highly organized with demonstrated ability to plan and execute multiple priorities with tight deadlines and meticulous attention to detail.
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including superior skills in Excel.
- Professional business communication designations considered an asset.
- Sound judgement, highly developed interpersonal skills, well developed organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
