What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025, Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
Reporting to the Manager, Human Resources, the Human Resources Business Partner would be supporting all Managers and Employees assigned to the Darlington New Nuclear Project, including employee relations, talent development and management, talent acquisition, administration, training & development, employee engagement, and workforce planning
What You’ll Do Here:
- Administer and oversee Living Out Allowance process per Travel & Per Diem Policy; track and collect required forms and documentation.
- Determine and advise on policy eligibility for new project staff, including transfers.
- Manage and update job descriptions as needed.
- Conduct one-on-one meetings with internal transfers to review project conditions and policies.
- Serve as HR point of contact for all constructor employees.
- Manage employee relations issues professionally and promptly in collaboration with managers.
- Provide proactive HR communications (town halls, leadership meetings, etc.).
- Handle case management and investigations.
- Coach managers and employees; apply progressive discipline principles.
- Interpret and apply policies accurately.
- Support performance management and objective setting aligned with project plans.
- Facilitate talent reviews and follow up on actions.
- Assess training needs, select programs, and track completion.
- Support succession planning and ensure plans are in place.
- Conduct compensation analysis for promotions, scope changes, and market assessments.
- Coordinate with corporate HR on disability case management.
- Provide headcount projections and workforce planning support.
- Advise on recruitment process, role requirements, and job analysis.
- Support rollout of corporate initiatives and adapt for project needs.
- Fiscal responsibility as required by the IPD contract
- Site office environment with limited travel, working under extreme time pressures.
- Interaction with various external stakeholders, including - External candidates during interviews, external training facilities and facilitators, government agencies, and recruitment agencies
What You Bring to the Team:
- A minimum of 5 years of HR Generalist experience
- Post-secondary school education in Human Resources Management
- Working towards CHRL designation
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and matrixed environment/ structure with high resiliency
- Superior problem-solving skills, ability to demonstrate agility in creating valuable solutions to complex issues quickly
- Versatility in HR portfolio is required; full scope employee life cycle, compensation, recruitment, talent management are a must.
- Organizational development experience is highly desirable
- Tactful and effective written and verbal communication skills, ability to interact with all levels within the organization and influence as required
- Strong analytical skills: ability to digest complex issues and simplify to enable appropriate action
- Ability to build a consensus among peers to support human resources strategies
- Able to commute to Bowmanville office
