Site Quality Control Manager

Position Overview

The joint venture between SNC-Lavalin and Aecon has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to carry out the Darlington Retube and Feeder Replacement (RFR) project. The project involves refurbishment of all four reactors at the Darlington Generating Station and consists of two phases – a Definition Phase and an Execution Phase. The Definition Phase includes the construction of a full-scale reactor mock-up to simulate key elements of the refurbishment work, and the development, procurement and testing of specialized tooling required for the project. The Execution Phase involves refurbishment of the reactor cores using the tools and methods that were developed and tested during the Definition Phase.

 

The RFR Project QC Manager - Site reports directly to the RFR QC Manager and serves as a member of the CanAtom QC team. This role is responsible for the direction, leadership and support of all RFR QC Field activities including supporting for planning and readiness, execution and closeout.  The RFR QC Manager – Site is responsible to ensure the safety of QC personnel, excellence on QC execution and records, and support for closeout of project activities.  The RFR QC Manager – Site is responsible to work collaboratively with Construction and other key stakeholders to ensure full compliance with requirements, while maintaining efficient and safe execution of QC scope of work. This roles is responsible for the daily planning, directing, and monitoring execution inspection and test activities, and will act as liaison with TSSA ANI and client representatives.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Establishes standards and expectations for how we conduct Quality Control across the RFR Project
  • Manages staffing requirements and resource sharing for the field QC RFR team. Supports the development of QC professionals with a focus on supporting critical succession management 
  • Provides standardized reporting for the Quality Control Field functional area ensuring that all relevant stakeholders have access to valuable data and analytics on field performance. Utilizes reports to anticipate and resolve issues as required.
  • Manages the performance and strong results of QC personnel on all the CanAtom projects. Ensures teams are clear and focused on performance objectives
  • Ensures appropriate planning, development, documentation, and maintenance of the quality assurance programs is executed.
  • Ensures qualification, indoctrination and training of project QC personnel prior to assignment of work activities.
  • Responsible for the daily planning, directing, and monitoring execution inspection and test activities, and
  • Acts as liaison with TSSA ANI and client representatives.

 

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Quality Control, with at least 5 years major project experience 
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in leadership/management role
  • Expertise in Quality Control Programs and processes
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Physical Science, a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with field execution of QC functions
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with demands of schedule production
  • Experience managing a robust stakeholder group including client, suppliers, JV partners, employees (including trades), and union business agents
