What is the Opportunity?

As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

 

The Hoisting & Rigging/ Mobile Equipment Trainer is responsible for training project staff on activities related to hoisting and rigging, spotting mobile equipment, and competency assessments for the operation of mobile equipment per project expectations and standard operating procedures.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Responsible for training project employees on a variety of Environmental Health and Safety related programs.
  • Primary focus on Hoisting & Rigging, Elevating Work Platform, Forklift Operation, Work at Heights, Supervisor Training, First Aid, etc.
  • Collaborates across the local organization and with Subject Matter Experts to gather expectations, develop or enhance training content, share best practices, and coordinate program requirements.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning for employees.
  • Provide timely feedback to management and supervisors relating to employee competency.
  • Establish measurable goals and levels of competency of each trainee.
  • Document all training in accordance with established legislative standards and project governance.
  • Promote a safety culture that supports continuous improvement in the EHS management system through active communication, participation and development of skills.
  • Fosters a positive safety culture in which trainees’ value safety.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • A working knowledge of Provincial OHS Legislation.
  • Extensive knowledge of BTU trades and work practices.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Construction and/or training within the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Train the Trainer Qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Liftow, Red Cross, etc.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in teams.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize multiple, concurrent assignments and tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Willingness to contribute toward, and assist colleagues with projects across functional areas and outside of primary responsibilities to contribute toward the overall team’s success.
