What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement, Aecon has been awarded a contract in an Aecon-led partnership with Kiewit Nuclear Canada by Ontario Power Generation (OPG) for the execution phase on the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP) in Clarington, Ontario. Beginning in 2025 Aecon will support the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
The Welding Training Supervisor will report to the DNNP Training Manager and will be responsible for leading and developing instructional material for technical training courses that support DNNP.
What You'll Do Here:
- Identifying technical training requirements for welding scopes of SMR-X to successfully educate and qualify project team members to perform their assigned tasks safely, efficiently, and effectively.
- Oversee the administration of weld training lesson plans to new trainees.
- Developing comprehensive training lesson plans, training needs analysis for both internal and external audiences in accordance with the project welding requirements.
- Developing trainer guides, training manuals, job aids, practical evaluations, and written exams to ensure optimum knowledge retention.
- Use multimedia tools to add high‑quality visuals, such as graphics, animations, and simulations, to training materials to improve clarity and reinforce learning.
- Promoting a culture of safety, quality, FME, team participation, and motivation in all aspects of training.
- Interfacing with construction and tooling staff to address training requirements and determine appropriate methods of delivery.
- Organizing training content reviews with tooling, construction, and other stakeholders to ensure training adequacy, effectiveness and accuracy.
- Manages a team of trainers and ensures each trainer follows the SMRX Training Readiness process
- Shift work where applicable to support Series training
- Ensure storage and revision control of all documents is executed per the document control plan
- Providing input to training schedules to accommodate the various work groups.
- Performs actual field tours to obtain feedback from workers on the process being used, so that training material is kept current and applicable.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Relevant post‑secondary education, such as a three‑year technical diploma, apprenticeship completion with 5–7 years of applicable experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ trades experience with 5 years’ supervisory experience.
- Sound understanding of conventional welding processes (GMAW, FCAW, SAW, GTAW, SMAW, STUD)
- Strong MS skills (word, excel, visio, power point)
- Experience in writing trainer guides and training manuals.
- Experience in developing nuclear training programs is an asset.
- Ability to identify training gaps; generate effective solutions; and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Highly self-motivated, disciplined, and able to work independently.
- Comfortable working in various work locations in both field and office
- Valid Driver's License

Pay Range: $66.605/hr in accordance with the General Foreman rate, applicable to all hires through their respective local union.
