Position Title:  Intermediate Accountant

Purpose of the Position

Aecon Infrastructure division has an opportunity for an Intermediate Accountant in our ACML department located at our Brampton office. Reporting to the Manager of Finance, the Intermediate Accountant will assist with month end close process, preparation of management reports among other duties.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the month end close process for both the Materials and Yellowline businesses (i.e. Asphalt, Aggregates and Liquid AC)
    • Analyze monthly inventory movements (i.e. production costs, capitalization of inventory, inventory transfers, etc.).
    • Analyze vendor statements against our inventory ticketing systems (i.e. Wintik/Compass).
    • Update, as required, Bill of Materials for each asphalt mix design.
    • Reconcile balance sheet accounts (e.g. prepaid expenses, unbilled/deferred revenues, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, asset retirement obligations, etc.).
  • Prepare monthly management reports
    • P&L reports by area and product (i.e. perform variance analysis).
    • Inventory continuity reports.
    • Other balance sheet schedules.
  • Work closely and effectively with Operations to prepare the Quarterly Forecasts and Business Plans for the Materials businesses, and then update in Aecon’s budgeting system.
  • Assist with the interim and year- end audits (i.e. both internal and external audit compliance).
  • Oversee weekly sales reconciliation for Asphalt and Aggregates.
  • Identify financial process improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor property tax changes and reconcile payments.
  • Participate in special projects, as required.



Required Knowledge and Skills

  • 1-3 years of accounting experience.
  • Related Post-Secondary education; working towards Accounting designation (CPA, CGA, CMA, CA).
  • Demonstrated computer software proficiency with Microsoft Office; advanced Excel skills would be a strong asset.
  • Excellent and proven organizational skills in order to meet multiple deadlines and handle multiple tasks within a high pressure work environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to work with a sense of urgency by demonstrating the ability to shift priorities to accomplish objectives.
  • Familiarity with SAP an asset.
  • Construction experience an asset.
  • Effectively manages time.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and under tight deadlines.
