Position Overview

Aecon Materials Engineering, AME, is seeking a Field Supervisor to join the team based out of the Caledon Office. We are interested in Engineers or Technologists with a minimum of 3 years of direct field supervision. Candidates must also have a minimum of 5 years of experience in field testing of construction materials such as asphalt, aggregates, concrete and soils. Preferred candidates will understand typical testing protocols required for MTO contracts, Geotechnical investigations and environmental assessment of materials and related laboratory testing.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direction and training of field technicians including evaluating materials for acceptance on construction projects.
  • Assist with material testing, including but not limited to asphalt, aggregate, soils, and concrete.
  • Maintain daily checklists, quality control reports and quality systems compliance.
  • Assists in equipment management / control / maintenance / certification.
  • Follow all Aecon Health & Safety policies and procedures.
  • Reviews / tracks / summarizes Quality Assurance non-conformances and ensures appropriate follow-up.
  • Ensures the safe / organized status of field equipment including mobile laboratories.
  • Facilitate and monitor ongoing training programs and provide support to other supervisors/managers.
  • Supervision and coordination of Field Technicians.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering Technology/Technician, Bachelor of Civil. Engineering or relevant Engineering program is an asset.
  • Experience in the field testing of construction materials is an asset.
  • Experience in lab testing for asphalt, aggregates, soils, and concrete is an asset.
  • Thorough understanding of OPSS and CSA specifications.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of direct field supervision on construction projects.
  • Excellent computer skills.
  • Proven people and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Proven ability to utilize current technologies.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and leadership.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and perform heavy lifting.
