What Is The Opportunity?
Under the supervision of the Shop Foreperson, the Lead hand Heavy-Duty Technician will be responsible for mentoring and leading heavy-duty technicians, performing troubleshooting, and repairs on the heavy equipment. The Lead hand Heavy-Duty Technician will work out of our Calgary, Alberta shop.
What You'll Do Here:
- Knowledge of repairs needed for communication with technicians.
- Accurate repair or trouble shooting scope.
- Assist technicians with troubleshooting.
- Ensure repairs are being completed in a timely manner and on budget.
- Supplied by service manager.
- Mentor and guide licensed technicians, and apprentices.
- Working with Technicians & Operations to prioritize repairs.
- Coordinate and dispatch technicians for repairs of onsite equipment.
- Supply technicians with contact information for each task.
- Knowledge of job locations for dispatch efficiency.
- Knowledge of technicians’ skillsets, to assign appropriate jobs.
- Maintain a clean and organized shop.
- Ensures all Workplace Safety, Environmental and National Safety Code Policies and Regulations are being adhered to.
- Read diagrams/schematics and manufacturers repair manuals for work procedures.
- Operate a hoist and lift device to position machinery parts in a safe manner.
- Lubricate, service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain equipment.
- Timely and accurate diagnosis and repair including computer connection/diagnosis with machine to identify fault codes.
- Provides guidance and instruction to less experienced, or apprentice maintenance personnel.
- Performing hands on maintenance and repairs of all equipment.
- Diagnosing electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubles.
- Making repairs according to the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Suggest positive changes to policy and procedures as required.
- Initiative, diligence and reliability.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Other duties as required.
Required knowledge and Experience
- Knowledge of all types of equipment within the road construction fleet, such as excavators, backhoes, paving equipment, trailers and various sizes and configurations of trucks.
- Heavy Equipment Technician (HET) Certification
- Minimum 10 years related construction tools and equipment maintenance experience.
- Experience with SAP is considered an asset.
- Strong communication skills – oral & written.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure.
- Adaptable to work a flexible work schedule when required.
- Ability to work an on-call rotation as required.
- Valid driver’s license.
