What is the Opportunity

Aecon is dedicated to a comprehensive, collaborative approach to Indigenous engagement in Canada with some United States Tribal content. We build relationships with Indigenous communities on a foundation of trust, respect, and understanding by acting as a responsible and respectful business partner, working side by side with community leaders and members, while creating and nurturing meaningful and beneficial opportunities and relationships. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Indigenous Relations, the Indigenous Relations Specialist will provide support to the Indigenous Relations Team for activities and projects across Aecon’s construction operations sectors.

 

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Supporting implementation of Aecon’s Reconciliation Action Plan.
  • Help to sustain Aecon's accredidation status with organizations including the Canadian Council for Indigenous Business.
  • Assist in the development of community relations including partnership initiatives with Indigenous businesses and supplier relationship management.
  • Interface with operational and functional groups to coordinate implementation of Indigenous procurement, employment and training opportunities and policies.
  • Act as a liaison between project teams and Indigenous partners and other participants to support project commitments and communications.
  • File management and recordkeeping including planning, maintaining, and reporting on engagement and benchmarking activities.
  • Support implementation of Aecon’s Indigenous awareness and recognition programs.
  • Provide strategic proposal and communications support, including storytelling.
  • Administrative oversight of Indigenous Participation Plans and associated reporting.
  • Participate in relationship-building opportunities, including conferences and other offsite events to develop and maintain productive working relationships with Indigenous Communities.
  • Opportunity to participate in critical Northern Canada development projects.
  • Travel as required.
     

What you Bring to the Team

  • Indigenous candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Post-secondary education in Political Science, Communications, Indigenous Studies, Business or another acceptable discipline from a recognized educational institution, or a combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Indigenous engagement, research, consulting or knowledge of Indigenous culture, governance systems and history, lived experience, knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills are essential. Experience with general project communications and/or community engagement are considered an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Must be willing to travel to where projects or Indigenous Communities or Groups are located and work a flexible work schedule.
  • Strong business writing skills are essential. Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect; is effective both inside and outside the organization,
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work effectively under pressure with multiple deadlines and tasks.
