What is the Opportunity?

Aecon Construction Solutions Inc. (ACSI) is a multi-disciplined construction company offering superior civil, electrical and mechanical services including piping, insulation, scaffolding, and module fabrication. From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnarounds and maintenance, ACSI leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work.

Reporting to the Construction Manager, the Instrumentation Superintendent is responsible for leading the execution of instrumentation and control scopes on complex industrial projects, ensuring all work is completed safely, on schedule, in compliance with contractual requirements, and to the highest standards of quality and workmanship.

 

Please note: This is a site-based position supporting projects across Western Canada.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Participate in bid reviews to validate constructability, labour productivity, and instrumentation scope requirements.
  • Lead field execution of instrumentation and control scopes including installation, calibration, testing, and commissioning of instruments and control systems.
  • Review and interpret drawings, loop diagrams, P&IDs, and specifications to ensure accurate installation and integration of instrumentation systems.
  • Oversee installation and commissioning of field devices, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, and associated systems.
  • Ensure calibration, testing, and maintenance of instrumentation systems are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Coordinate troubleshooting and resolution of issues related to instrumentation, PLC, DCS, and control systems.
  • Monitor pre-commissioning, commissioning, and system startup activities to ensure operational readiness and system integrity.
  • Develop and manage construction and look-ahead schedules, aligning labour, materials, and equipment with project needs.
  • Work closely with EHS teams to enforce site safety programs and Aecon’s zero-injury culture.
  • Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders for efficient execution of instrumentation work.
  • Interface with clients to provide updates on progress and resolve field-related instrumentation issues.
  • Support change management processes related to scope, schedule, and system modifications.
  • Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies in collaboration with project teams.
  • Mentor and develop forepersons, journeypersons, and apprentices, fostering a high-performance and inclusive team culture.
  • Act as the construction lead for instrumentation scopes in coordination with Project Management, Engineering, Quality, and Project Controls teams.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum 5+ years of industrial construction experience with a focus on instrumentation and control systems.
  • Proven experience in a supervisory or superintendent-level role overseeing instrumentation or I&C scopes.
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation systems including transmitters, analyzers, control valves, and field devices.
  • Experience with PLC, DCS, and control systems integration and commissioning.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Valid Journeyperson Instrumentation Technician certification or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of testing, calibration, and commissioning processes.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability managing craft labour.
  • Solid understanding of industrial safety procedures and regulatory standards (CSA, ISA, API).
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple work fronts in complex project environments.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and fostering an inclusive work environment.
