Position Overview
Alberta Transportation has awarded Aecon with a $595 million contract for the Deerfoot Trail Improvements project, located in Calgary, Alberta. Construction will consist of seven new bridges, additional lanes, and improvements to ramps and interchanges. Construction is scheduled for completion by fall of 2027.
Reporting into the Quality Manager, the Structural - Field Review Engineer certifies that specific construction points are in compliance with the Technical Requirements of the contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Review the reports of inspection and testing performed to structural bridge fabrication and construction work.
- Confirm that any design changes have been signed and sealed by the Design Engineer.
- Confirm that the detailed designs are the latest version submitted to the Department.
- Record any changed conditions encountered, observations made, and deficiencies found during site visits.
- Non-conformance reporting.
- Stamp certificate which indicates the work was built according to the designs including any design changes.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in Bridge Construction including steel/precast girder fabrication.
- Experience in Civil Infrastructure Projects as FRE will be added qualification.
- 5 plus years of experience in civil engineering: concrete, shotcrete, grout, earthworks, welding and coatings.
- Professional Engineer Designation in Alberta
- Understanding of rules and regulations on a construction site, particularly with bridge construction.
- Experience working on large, complex civil infrastructure projects.
- Experience working with joint venture partnerships.
- Experience working with public, department of transportation clients.
- Experience and knowledge with Internationally Recognized Codes & Standards.
- Experience interfacing with project owners.
- Knowledge using computer technology (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.).
- Flexible and well organized, detail oriented and multi-tasked.
- Strong communication skills, written and oral.
- Excellent ability to clearly explain advanced technical issues in manner that is easily understood.
- Strong sense of personal responsibility and accountability for delivering high quality work.
