Reporting into the Survey Manager the Survey Technologist will support the Deerfoot Trails Improvements Project located in Calgary, AB.

 

What You’ll Do Here:

  • Provides construction layout data as requested, including control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials by crafts (i.e., forms for concrete pours, curb and gutter, sidewalks, driveway, storm sewer, etc.).
  • Prepare and maintain sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys.
  • Adjust surveying instruments in order to maintain their accuracy.
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
  • Record the results of surveys, including the shape, contour, location, elevation, and dimensions of land or land features.
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys.
  • Prepare clear and accurate field notes and calculations.
  • Use and application of Geographic Information Systems or GIS software and Computer Aided Design and Drafting software (CAD). 
  • Other related duties as assigned from time to time.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Post-secondary level Engineering Technologist Diploma or Geomatics Engineering Degree.
  • 5+ years of experience in the field of construction surveying, preference given to those with civil and structural construction, specifically bridges and highways.
  • Experience with underground utilities staking, storm drainage, sanitization, and water.
  • Ability to read and understand utility drawings
  • Ability to create staking cutsheets using excel
  • CAD Civil 3D experience.
  • Experience with Leica, Captivate, robotics and GPS considered an asset.
  • Ability to accurately read plans and calculate shapes (geometric, etc.) also required.
  • Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Good hands on technical, communication, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Current member with CLAC or willingness to join.
  • Ability work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, and occasional night shift work would be required.
