Under the supervision of the Shop Foreperson, the Field Heavy-Duty Technician will provide preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections, modifications, system installation and dismantling, diagnostics, and repairs for earthmoving and paving construction equipment. The Field Heavy-Duty Technician will be based out of Medicine Hat, Alberta and will perform most work at active project sites and other field locations as operationally required.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Ensure all Workplace Safety, Environmental, and National Safety Code policies and regulations are followed at project sites and field locations.
  • Read diagrams, schematics, and manufacturers’ repair manuals to determine appropriate work procedures.
  • Safely operate hoists, lifting devices, service equipment, and tools required to position and repair machinery components.
  • Inspect and examine vehicles and equipment in field conditions to identify defects, wear, and service requirements.
  • Lubricate, service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain vehicles and heavy construction equipment.
  • Complete timely and accurate diagnostics and repairs, including connecting diagnostic computers to equipment to identify and clear fault codes.
  • Respond to equipment breakdowns and complete field repairs to minimize operational downtime.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic issues and complete repairs in accordance with manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Coordinate repair requirements and equipment availability with equipment operators, supervisors, and project teams.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, work orders, and documentation for completed field work.
  • Keep the assigned service vehicle, tools, parts, and work area organized, secure, and ready for use.
  • Provide guidance and instruction to less experienced technicians and apprentice maintenance personnel.
  • Recommend practical improvements to maintenance policies, procedures, and work practices as required.
  • Demonstrate initiative, diligence, reliability, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in remote or active construction environments.
  • Perform other duties as required.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • 3+ years of heavy equipment maintenance and repair experience.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Must comply with the company’s drug and alcohol program, including testing requirements.
  • Fewer than 6 demerit points on driver’s abstract.
  • Excellent mechanical knowledge and demonstrated diagnostic ability.
  • Physically fit and able to perform heavy lifting and hands-on repair work in field conditions.
  • Journeyperson Certificate (Red Seal) as a Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • Dual trade certification will be considered an asset.CVIP certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and work varied shifts, extended hours, weekends, or on-call schedules when operationally required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and site conditions.

 

The expected pay for this role is $48.50 per hour.

 

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
