What Is The Opportunity?
Aecon is seeking experienced Traffic Control Technicians (TCTs)—also known as Traffic Technicians—to join our team for the 2026 construction season!
Do you have hands‑on experience setting up lane closures? Operated flatbed trucks, handled trailers, or worked with TMAs? If so, we want to hear from you!
In this role, you will be responsible for creating and maintaining safe, protected work areas for contractors and crews throughout Calgary and Southern Alberta. TCPs play a critical role in roadway safety by setting up, monitoring, and removing lane closures and detours using equipment such as:
- Barricades
- Traffic cones / pylons
- Road signage
- Digital message boards
What You'll Do Here:
- Ensuring that all safety procedures and protocols are followed.
- Implement safe lane closures, detours, and work zones according to standards and procedures.
- Perform physical setup and takedown of traffic control devices.
- Removing and relocating traffic equipment as needed.
- Operate company vehicles including flat deck trucks, trucks with trailers, and TMA units
- Support crews and contractors by maintaining safe and efficient traffic flow.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and site requirements.
- Performing flagging activities to safely direct vehicles, heavy equipment and foot traffic for the safety of road users and work crews in a construction environment.
- Completing daily traffic inspections and reports.
- Shifts involve up to 12-hour shifts, including nights and days.
What You Bring to the Team:
- 1+ year of traffic control experience (lane closures/takedowns preferred)
- Valid Class 5 Non‑GDL Driver’s License
- Physically capable of standing for long durations, moving traffic equipment and working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Clean 3‑Year Driver’s Abstract (required for driving company vehicles)
- Experience with flat deck trucks and towing trailers is an asset.
- Familiarity with navigating the City of Calgary road network is an asset.
- Ability to pass a pre‑employment Drug & Alcohol Test.
- ACSA TCP Ticket is an asset.
- If you don’t have it—no problem! Aecon provides all required training.
- PPE Requirements:
- Bring CSA‑approved safety boots on Day 1—we supply the rest!
