Purpose of the Position

Reporting to the Vice President EHS and Risk Management and supporting the Aecon Nuclear Senior Management Team; the Director, EHS will be responsible for the delivery of the Aecon Occupational Health & Safety Program (“Redbook”) in the Aecon Nuclear organization and across its projects. As a Senior EHS Leader, the incumbent is responsible for supervising, mentoring and developing a network of EHS leaders and specialists within the Aecon Nuclear organization and its projects.


What You'll Do Here: 

  • Manage the coordination of activities of Aecon Safety operations and centralized program and implementation of the EHS programs across the Aecon Nuclear division.
  • Formulate and recommend improvement to the EHS programs.
  • Ensure compliance to the Occupational Health & Safety Act & Construction, CNSC and other pertinent legislation.
  • Inspect and Audit project facilities and recommends corrective and or preventative measures.
  • Supervision and performance management of EHS leaders on project sites and monitors the EHS of projects.
  • Roll up EHS program deliverables as per schedule set out in the EHS programs and (weekly, monthly quarterly reports) for submission to corporate, clients and supporting Project statistical reporting.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly EHS status and statistical reports for VP and Aecon Nuclear Senior Management Team.
  • Provide oversight and direction on workers’ compensation and claims management process.
  • Analyze trends from accident investigations, and ensure corrective actions are shared and standardized as appropriate across the organization.
  • Develop and communicate EHS Lessons Learned, Apparent Cause and EHS Anatomy of Event summaries as required.
  • Continue to evolve the Aecon critical risk management program for the Nuclear sector.
  • Develop safety proposals and assists in marketing strategies and presentations.
  • Assist all Aecon divisions with marketing strategies, pre-qualifications, bids and proposals. Also, supports divisions through developing presentations to new and existing clients on EHS matters.
  • Represent the organization in community or industry safety and associations and programs.
  • Other duties as prescribed by VP, EHS and/or the Aecon Nuclear SBU Leader.


What you will bring to the team: 
•    A professional designation such as a “CRSP” is preferred.
•    Minimum 10 years’ senior experience in Health and Safety, EHS where Hu programming has been applied ideally in the context of the nuclear construction industry.
•    University degree or College diploma in human sciences fields or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety and Human Performance field.
•    A Team Player that accepts and can manage change regularly.
•    Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
•    Time management skills.
•    Working in a union environment.
