What is the Opportunity?
Faster. Smarter. Safer. This is how Aecon Utilities is committed to delivering projects. Aecon Utilities is ready to become Canada’s #1 utility construction provider and we’re looking for an Engineering Coordinator to join our Renewables group and help us get there! Aecon Renewables is supporting the development and construction of renewable energy projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), solar, and other clean energy facilities.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Engineering Coordinator plays a key role in bridging the engineering and construction teams throughout the lifecycle of renewable energy projects. This role is heavily focused on coordinating engineering deliverables, driving the engineering schedule, and ensuring design completeness and timely issuance to support construction execution. The Engineering Coordinator works closely with internal and external design engineers to maintain momentum, resolve issues, and ensure engineering outputs align with project scope, constructability, and schedule requirements.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Act as the primary liaison between Engineering and Construction teams to ensure alignment on scope, schedule, and constructability.
- Drive and manage the engineering schedule in collaboration with design engineers and project leadership.
- Coordinate and track engineering deliverables to ensure drawings, studies, and packages are issued complete and on time.
- Proactively follow up with design engineers to maintain schedule adherence and address gaps or delays.
- Support the development phase by providing engineering context to construction teams and vice versa.
- Review engineering deliverables for completeness, consistency, and readiness for construction.
- Manage Requests for Information (RFIs) between construction, engineering, and external stakeholders.
- Maintain engineering registers, trackers, and document control systems.
- Assist with change management by coordinating engineering inputs related to scope changes and field conditions.
- Participate in engineering, coordination, and constructability review meetings and document outcomes.
- Ensure engineering documentation is properly organized, issued, and archived in accordance with project standards.
- Support regulatory and authority submissions related to electrical and engineering scopes as required.
- Adhere to all Aecon workplace policies, procedures, and safe work practices.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Engineering degree or diploma in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in an engineering coordination, engineering, or project coordination role within industrial or renewable energy environments.
- Strong electrical background with experience supporting utility interconnections, substations, or industrial electrical systems.
- Experience in renewable energy projects such as solar or BESS is highly desirable; solar experience translates well to battery energy storage projects.
- Industrial electrical experience (low-voltage systems, controls, equipment installation) is considered highly relevant.
- Exposure to utility interconnect or substation engineering is an asset; transmission and distribution-only backgrounds may be less aligned with this role.
- Demonstrated ability to manage engineering schedules and coordinate multiple design stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of engineering workflows, drawing issuance processes, and construction support requirements.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively coordinate between multidisciplinary teams.
- Highly organized, proactive, and capable of driving deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Proficient in MS Office applications; experience with document control systems and project management tools is an asset.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven project environment.
- Commitment to safety, collaboration, and inclusion.
