What is the Opportunity?
From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnaround and maintenance, Aecon Industrial leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients in Canada and the U.S. with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work.
 
Reporting to the Estimating Manager, the Junior Estimator will be responsible for the generation of accurate and timely cost estimates for assigned projects. The Estimator will deliver properly organized estimates, budgets and schedules, while managing Aecon’s risk.
 
What You'll Do Here:
  • Analyze documents, scope of works, specifications, proposal requirements, and addendums in preparation for pricing.
  • Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings, plot plans, P&IDs, 3D models, and bills of quantities.
  • Obtain, analyze, validate to scope of work, and recommend third-party pricing from suppliers and subcontractors to incorporate into estimates.
  • Formulate all costs for tender submission, including labour, equipment, material, freight, consumables, rentals, and subcontractors.
  • Be accountable for the accuracy and completeness of tender submissions.
  • Assist with prequalification submissions, RFQs, and RFIs as required.
  • Obtain input from Operations staff as appropriate.
  • Review project sites and construction conditions prior to price preparation, as required.
  • Perform post-bid and post-project analysis and ensure associated learning and communication takes place.
  • Collect data and reports on established business metrics and key performance indicators.
  • Comply with documentation management systems by filing bid documentation and estimating records and managing correspondence for active and completed estimates.
  • Provide estimating support to field and operational staff on current projects, as required.
  • Drive estimating process and procedure compliance and consistency.
  • Incorporate and comply with Aecon’s risk management policies and procedures.
  • Drive positive relationships and serve as the main contact with key subcontractors.
  • Maintain estimating data systems to ensure they are kept up to date.
  • Drive an inclusive culture to promote equity, welcome different perspectives, and enable career progression by fostering a sense of belonging.
 
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Prior estimating or operational experience is an asset.
  • Red Seal Certification is an asset.
  • Experience navigating and retrieving data from 3D models is an asset.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Good knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting and reporting principles is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, Word, Project, P6, SharePoint, Bluebeam, and estimating software (Accubid and/or InEight).
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
  • Adaptability to a flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work with others as part of a team.
  • Be a champion of inclusion and diversity.

The expected pay range for this role is $60,000 - $80,000 per year.
 
 
Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
