What is the Opportunity?
From fabrication and modularization to new builds, turnaround and maintenance, Aecon Industrial leads the way in industrial construction and water infrastructure, providing clients in Canada and the U.S. with vertically integrated solutions and exceptional self-perform work. 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchaser to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for sourcing materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and services that support our operations. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to ensure procurement activities meet established quality, pricing, and timeline requirements — including support for cross‑border purchasing and project needs. 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Purchase materials, supplies, tools, equipment, and routine services within established guidelines for quality, quantity, and price.
  • Assess company requirements and determine specifications for required items.
  • Source and research materials to ensure optimal price, quality, and availability.
  • Provide pricing support for estimates and assist with closing bids.
  • Coordinate delivery and expediting of goods to meet project needs.
  • Invite tenders, consult with suppliers, and review quotations.
  • Select vendors, issue purchase orders, and maintain accurate purchasing records.
  • Build and maintain strong supplier relationships, including US‑based vendors to support cross‑border procurement.
  • Support cross‑border projects, ensuring compliance with import requirements, timelines, and documentation standards.
  • Meet with manufacturing representatives to stay current on new products and applications.
  • Negotiate contract terms and pricing and recommend contract awards.
  • Ensure that vendors and subcontractors meet or exceed EHS, quality, and financial requirements.
  • Manage competitive bidding processes including preparing bid lists, issuing packages, evaluating bids, recommending awards, and documenting results.
  • Negotiate pricing and exceptions to standard contract terms.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Post-secondary education required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a purchasing department.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industrial or commercial construction procurement.
  • Completion of PMAC Purchasing Certificate, enrolment in SCMP program, or relevant trade certification (an asset).
  • Strong understanding of procurement principles, practices, techniques, and ethics.
  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and consumable materials.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to thrive in a team-based setting.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to changing requirements.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills with internal clients and industry partners.
  • Strong negotiation, communication (verbal & written), and research skills.
  • High attention to detail with strong mathematical and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint).
  • SAP experience considered an asset.

Pay Range: $70,000 - $80,000

Individual pay is determined based on several factors, including work location, education, experience, unique skills and job conditions. Other considerations may include certifications, specialized training, and the complexity or scope of the role.
