Aecon Nuclear currently is undertaking efforts to replace key components at the Darlington and Bruce Power plants as a part of each respective Life Extension Program to allow operation for another 40+ years. The scope of work includes the removal and replacement of calandria tubes, pressure tubes, feeders, and steam generators as well as technical development, construction management and trade labour.

Aecon Nuclear is also currently at the forefront of the next generation of Nuclear Power in Canada by fabricating and constructing the first of a kind SMR facility in Darlington in addition to potential other new build large scale reactors among other exciting nuclear industry efforts across North America and Europe.

The Source Surveillance Specialist is responsible for executing surveillance activities across suppliers and sub-suppliers. This includes initiating, planning, performing, documenting, and tracking witnessing and oversight activities to ensure compliance with quality requirements. The role involves direct observation, verification through quality records review, and acceptance of materials, items, and services at supplier facilities. Timely submission of source surveillance reports is essential.

This position reports directly to the Auditing Supervisor and indirectly to the Quality Director and Quality Managers at Aecon Nuclear.

What You'll Do Here 

Interpret and implement source surveillance plans. Review and execute witnessing and oversight activities as outlined in suppliers ITPs, travelers, work orders, or Quality Plans.Surveillance activities may include: 

  • Validating material documentation against purchase order requirements (e.g., CMTRs)
  • Verifying that material markings correspond to material documentation
  • Conducting compliance reviews of dimensional inspections as required
  • Reviewing supplier-generated nonconformance reports for Aecon’s review and disposition
  • Reviewing supplier data history docket packages for completeness and accuracy
  • Confirm all necessary NDE has been completed and properly documented
  • Review calibration records for measurement and test equipment (M&TE)
  • Assess qualifications and certifications of personnel performing work
  • Evaluate supplier and sub-supplier inspection records
  • Perform oversight from raw material verification through manufacturing, testing, paint & coatings review, and final product acceptance
  • Compile and submit all surveillance documentation and reports to Aecon
  • Complete release documentation
  • Escalate deviations from contractual requirements to management and initiate Supplier Corrective Action Reports where applicable

What You Bring To The Team

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in performing source surveillance activities 
  • Quality systems training and auditing experience
  • Education in a technical discipline (Mechanical, Electrical or Civil) at the College or University level
  • Experience and knowledge with Nuclear Codes & Standards, and an understanding of Nuclear Safety Culture and Nuclear Quality Programs.
  • Working knowledge of welding requirements
  • Experience reviewing NDE documentation VT, UT, PT, MT, and RT.
  • Knowledge of painting and coatings requirements
  • Experience reviewing packaging, storage, preservation, shipping provisions and markings.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  • Computer literate with MS Office applications
  • Working knowledge of ASME BP&V Nuclear and Non-Nuclear Construction Codes including related CSA N285, N286 and N299 standards experience
  • Have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel within Canada
