Position Overview
Under general supervision, the Mechanic will be responsible for carrying out skilled journeyman level work out of Carp, Ontario. Work involves preventative and corrective maintenance, inspections, modifications, installations/dismantling of systems and projects within the trade and troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairs of construction equipment. This position is unionized.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all Workplace Safety, Environmental and National Safety Code Policies and Regulations are being adhered to.
- Read diagrams/schematics and manufacturers repair manuals for work procedures.
- Maintain and service a fleet of Heavy Equipment for road construction.
- Able to perform services on electrical, hydraulic, power train, suspension, brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Operate a hoist and lift device to position machinery parts in a safe manner.
- Inspect and examine vehicles and equipment.
- Lubricate, service, diagnose, repair, assemble, and maintain vehicles and equipment.
- Timely and accurate diagnosis and repair including computer connection/diagnosis with machine to identify fault codes.
- Provides guidance and instruction to less experienced, or apprentice maintenance personnel.
- Performing hands on maintenance and repairs of all equipment.
- Diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic troubles.
- Making repairs per the manufacturer’s specifications.
- Utilize computer electronic systems to interpret failure codes.
- Suggest positive changes to policy and procedures as required.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Maintain excellent customer relations.
- Perform service calls for emergency breakdowns.
- Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Valid G license in good standing is required, DZ license would be an asset.
- 421A licensed or 4th year apprentice heavy equipment mechanic.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in equipment and vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Excellent mechanical knowledge.
- Heavy lifting required.
- Effective interpersonal skills (spoken and written communication).
- High school graduate asset.
