The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Advisor reports to the EHS Manager and is responsible to provide health and safety advice and assistance to the projects Line Supervisors. The EHS Advisor will audit the Project EHS Programs and work with the line organization to develop corrective actions with the goal of continuously improving health and safety in the workplace.
What You'll Do Here
• Mentor project staff in the requirements of conventional safety procedures
• Track and report safety-related statistics
• Support the management of Return to Work and Modified duties cases at the field level
• Support Human Performance Program activities
• Assist in development of JSA/SWP, High Hazard, Critical Lifting and Handling forms, Confined space and dropped object prevention and audit same in the field
• Walkdown jobsite and ensure controls are in place as per plan. Review JARR cards, pre-job briefs, hot work permits, safe lift plans, LOTO, etc.
• Report all accidents, incidents (conventional or radiological safety), near misses, unsafe conditions and behaviours to the Safety Manager immediately
• Assist Line Supervisors in accident, incident, near miss investigations and ensure all documentation is completed and distributed as required
• Post and maintain Safety bulletins, posters, distribution of safety material, supplies and equipment
• Develop and deliver presentations to workers, sub-contractors, and clients
• Responsible for the day-to-day administration and management of EHS
• Perform inspections and audits; formal and informal
• Immediately stop work activity when unsafe acts or conditions exist and immediately inform site management
• Maintain files of safety related paperwork such JARR cards, PJB etc.
• Ensure that corrective actions have been taken whenever safety deficiencies have been identified
• Participate in daily tailboard and weekly safety meetings
• Mentor and coach craft and supervision in the field with regards to safety roles and responsibilities
• Additional detailed requirements as outlined in the Project Specific EHS and EHS management plan
What You Bring To The Team
• Experience in Health and Safety within the construction industry
• Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field
• A designation such as CHSO, CRSP or NCSO is preferred
• Working knowledge of applicable Ontario/nuclear Health and Safety Acts and Regulations
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• Incident Investigation training/experience considered an asset
• Experience in nuclear considered an asset
• A team player that accepts and can manage change regularly and timely
• Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong computer skills with advanced skills in Word and Excel
• Speaking in front of/to (large) work groups
