Position Overview
This role will be responsible for developing and maintaining strategic growth plans, directing day-to-day operations for the business development and marketing organization, and establishing and maintaining key customer relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Function as a key member of the US Nuclear senior leadership team (SLT) to develop objectives and strategies in support of achieving the organizations’ strategic business goals.
- Provide leadership and oversight for the US Nuclear business development and marketing team
- Collaborate with other Aecon market sector leaders (Civil, Industrial, Utilities, etc.) operating in the US to support overall growth for Aecon in the US.
- Provide leadership for the integration of the former United Engineers and Constructors business strategy and business development stakeholders, into the Aecon organization
- Strategic Growth
- Develop and maintain strategic growth plans for the US Nuclear organization, including Commercial Nuclear Services, Federal Services, and Automotive Manufacturing Services divisions.
- Lead efforts to identify and develop key business relationships in pursuit of alliances, teaming agreements and joint ventures.
- Lead efforts to identify and develop key new customer relationships and maintain existing customer relationships
- Monitor our business division markets for emerging opportunities or changes that could impact the existing market.
- Perform market research in areas such as market size, growth potential, and market shares.
- Assist the SLT Prepare/advise on annual revenue targets and budgets and update as required (quarterly)
- Opportunity Development and Tracking
- Monitor sales activity and market conditions and adjust the business development strategy as appropriate.
- Analyze and filter the potential opportunities for the best fit with divisional goals.
- Ensure valid opportunities are documented and managed using the Aecon-wide CRM tool
- Maintain and update customer relationship mapping information updated
- Coordinate with the RFP Response and Proposal Teams to ensure clear transition of the opportunity via the Bid/No-bid review process.
- Develop improved methods and means to accurately identify market analysis through research and digital sources
- Customer Relationships
- Establish and maintain effective contact with clients, including post award contact. Identify new work leads and manage lead follow-up.
- Provide advice, liaison, planning, etc. to the prospective and current clients.
- Strategic Risk Management
- Collect and track feedback on our teams execution performance from customers (continuous improvement initiatives).
- Track and communicate what our top competitors are doing.
- Risk analysis, including review of Terms and Conditions, pre-bid recommendation forms, PRC and chairing or attending pre-bid and bid closing meetings.
- Managing Business Development Organization
- Provide oversight and direction for day-to-day operations for the business development and marketing organization
- Develop clear procedural guidance for the business development team with regard for strategic focus and opportunity development
- Establish standards and expectations for written communication with new and existing customers, including presentations, email, and other formal means of communicating
- Create a “process adherence” culture in the business development team
- Act as a strong mentor and coach for the business development team.
- Oversee marketing and communications activities as needed to support strategic growth and improvement initiatives.
- Establish regular reporting and business intelligence that provides the leadership team with information needed to manage the business.
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Technical background: Nuclear operations, nuclear services or construction, or equivalent nuclear industry experience
- Business Analytical Skills and knowledge of basic negotiating approaches
- Commercial knowledge – solid understanding of the risks in contract terms
- Strong facilitation skills to validate and understand complex business related (or market) problems and to clearly understand, define and communicate problems to internal stakeholders.
- Ability to understand business problems and challenges and proactively identify options for consideration appropriately mitigate impact to the business.
- Ability to report data and analyze data for relevant trends.
- Well organized, energetic and able to work well under pressure.
- Cross-cultural agility – awareness of and value for diverse Indigenous culture and history.
- Ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings and styles; can get messages across that have the desired effect; is effective both inside and outside the organization, on both cool data and hot and controversial topics.
