Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Commercial Operations, the Director of Contracts is responsible for leading the contracts function, including but not limited to: template creation and maintenance, developing talent, providing accurate and timely commercial and contract guidance to Aecon leadership, and cross functional collaboration in support of business interests, consistent with their education, training, and experience.

What You'll Do Here 

 

  • The Director of Contracts has responsibility for, and leads the organization, that supports all customer contracts, subcontracts, and other documents related to a project, throughout the project lifecycle.  
  • Oversee, draft, review, negotiate and/or drive to execution all documents involved in the pursuit and execution of a project, including requests for quotation, requests for proposals, confidentiality agreements, pre-bid agreements, purchase orders, contracts, representations and certifications, NDAs, MSAs, subcontracting agreements, etc. within a cross functional environment while exhibiting an exceptional attention to detail in applying company policies and procedures by providing practical analysis of inherent risks, mitigation strategies,  and recommendations for commercial matters to operations staff during each phase of the project lifecycle.
  • Draft or amend organizational templates, policies, training, and standard operating procedures, with various stakeholder inputs.
  • Prepare project specific contract administration manuals as required.
  • Assist project staff with the interpretation and practical application of contract documents.
  • Document significant events on assigned project(s), typically, safety performance, productivity concerns, cost and schedule issues and other change management concerns.
  • Oversee the formation and administration of contracts with subcontractors and ensure that required and relevant customer terms are flowed down appropriately.
  • Be an agent for change across the value stream to add value that benefits the business.
  • Ensure the department maintains an accurate database for all executed contracts and subcontracts, contractual/commercial issues, and drafts for each project.
  • Provide presentations and workshops, as required by the Supervisor, to the employees with respect to contract administration including, corporate policies, procedures, and guidelines, change and delay management. 
  • Foster a close, working relationship with various functions, including Legal and Commercial departments, as required.
  • Other duties as assigned. 
     

What You Bring To The Team

 

  • 10 years’ experience in the industrial engineering, nuclear or construction industries.
  • 5 years’ experience leading others and having overall responsibility for a contracts. function within a cross functional construction, engineering, or manufacturing setting.
  • A Bachelor's degree, is required.
  • J.D. is highly desired.
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong work ethic and robust organizational skills.
  • Experience negotiating and drafting commercial contracts in corporate setting.
  • Knowledge of project operations, policies, procedures, and strategic direction.
  • Understanding of project planning, scheduling and management.
  • Experience dealing with labor obligations and their impact on the Project.
  • Ability to grasp technical and commercial issues, understand how they fit within the contractual context, and develop appropriate written positions.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proactive, critical thinker.
  • Exceptional planning & time management skills.
  • Exceptional decision-making ability and negotiation skills.
  • Exceptional emotional intelligence.
  • Working knowledge of FAR.
