Reporting directly to the Commercial Operations Director, the Federal Contract Manager is responsible for providing accurate and timely commercial and compliance advice for AECON, consistent with their education, training, and experience, adhering to company and customer requirements, as well as relevant policies and procedures.

What You'll Do Here 

  • Active engagement in front-end strategic assessment of bids and proposals, including identifying significant or unusual risks in finance, technical or schedule areas, while supporting overall program and company objectives
  • Develop customer engagement strategies as necessary for successful contract execution and resolution
  • Develop pre-negotiation objectives and implement negotiation strategy reviews as part of the proposal development process
  • Negotiate directly with customers and industry peers and develop trusting relationships both internally and externally
  • Focus on continuously improving the overall quality, capability, and bench strength of the contract's organization
  • Handle all contract duties to achieve program and business area objectives
  • Lead coordination of any payment issues to ensure compliant and timely payment in support of program objectives
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively across functions to achieve program objectives
  • Assist project staff with the interpretation and practical application of contract documents
  • Assist in the formation and administration of contracts with subcontractors, ensuring that all relevant terms and conditions are communicated to Subcontractors
  • Act as the point of contact for the client regarding contractual matters
  • Prepare, develop, and manage contractual correspondence promptly, ensuring all notices adhere to the specific notice timelines. Develop and maintain effective systems and processes to identify and address any potential commercial issues and changes
  • Maintain a current log of all issues, change requests and change orders for each contract
  • Ensure accurate issue files for all contractual/commercial issues are maintained for each contract
  • Provide presentations and workshops, as required by the supervisor, to the employees with respect to contract administration including, corporate policies, procedures, guidelines, change and delay management 
  • Contribute to the revision and maintenance of operating policies and procedures
  • Obtain the assistance from the appropriate Aecon’s Legal/Commercial department as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager
     

What You Bring To The Team

 

  • 10 years of experience with a large federal services contractor in the industrial engineering, nuclear or construction industry
  • A Bachelor's degree in Management or relevant discipline
  • J.D., M.B.A., or other graduate degree  
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong work ethic and robust organizational skills
  • Experience with negotiating and drafting commercial contracts in a corporate setting
  • Knowledge of project operations, policies, procedures, and strategic direction
  • Understanding of project planning, scheduling and management
  • Experience managing labor obligations and their impact on the project
  • Ability to grasp technical and commercial issues, understand how they fit within the contractual context, and develop appropriate written positions
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal, analytical and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Must be a proactive, critical thinker
  • Exceptional decision-making ability and negotiation skills
  • Strong knowledge of FAR, DFAR, DEAR
  • General knowledge of applicable law and regulations
  • Travel domestically as required
