The Finance Team is looking for a Project Accountant to join their growing team. The hire would work closely with the Finance Manager over the Aecon business, along with operations, and several shared service organizations within Aecon. Great opportunity to gain experience doing a wide variety of tasks in a challenging but rewarding atmosphere. Primary duties would be in the project space monitoring financials, contract obligations, and performance. Duties will also include developing standard reporting, and assisting in the month end close out process as well as helping with quarterly/yearly forecasting. The hire will gain great exposure working for an international publicly traded company! Construction/Nuclear experience is a plus, but there are plenty of experienced folks to assist in your indoctrination into the industry!
What You'll Do Here
- Full-cycle project accounting including preparation of billings and/or entry into client systems, monitoring AR collections and reconciling WIP/unbilled balances
- Work closely with Project Manager in preparing monthly progress invoices and analyzing job costs/performance
- Work with Project or Operations Management team to identify and forecast financial exposures;
- Work with project staff along with accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, estimating and Business Unit finance department to prepare financial reports;
- Maintain change order logs and ensure adherence to Aecon’s revenue recognition policies
- Review cost reports to verify that budgets, planned and actual costs, Estimated Costs at Completion (ECAC), contracts and subcontracts have all been properly tracked
- Maintain accurate labour rate tables for hourly labour, ensure compliance with relevant union agreements
- Review all standard costs and reconcile/analyze monthly variances
- Prepare month end entries such as subcontract accruals and cost transfers
- Provide information for internal and external audits including client audits
- Monitor and analyze subcontract costs
- Perform such other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Finance/Project Management
What You Bring To The Team
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting
• 1+ year of experience, may be pursuing CPA designation or equivalent
• Experience in construction or related industry is preferred
• Experience with SAP, and Business Objects is valued
• Progressive experience that indicates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to influence without specific authority
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to balance and prioritize multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
• Strong ability to think creatively, challenge the status quo, deal with ambiguity
• History of strong personal performance and value add to the business
• Demonstrated success working with internal/ external stakeholders
• Strong financial acumen and relevant financial skills, including quantitative problem solving
• Broad business knowledge, end-to-end thinking, and organizational awareness
