Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.
Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Human Resources Business Partner to join our Barbados team. Based in Barbados, the Human Resources Business Partner will be responsible for overseeing HR activities on the project and ensure that all are in accordance with human resources policies and in compliance with employment and labour laws, acceptable practices and regulations for our Civil team.
What You’ll Do Here:
- Act as the first point of contact for employees and managers assigned for HR related matter.
- Support the roll-out of project and client employee development and engagement programs and initiatives.
- Oversee the recruitment process for project staff such as construction site employees, administrative and project management staff, in coordination with the project’s leadership team and JV partners.
- Develop and maintain an effective onboarding process for new employees, ensuring all new employees have the proper equipment and access for their first day, including IT setup and project hire announcements, to ensure a smooth integration into the project.
- Ensure the company adheres to all labor laws, and industry standards within the project location or additional jurisdictions.
- Assist in the development and implementation of HR strategies that support the achievement of project goals.
- Responsible for working closely with administrative team to ensure all transactions related to the employee life cycle are submitted accurately and within the required payroll deadlines (i.e. new hire paperwork, terminations, benefits, compensation changes, taxable benefits, project uplifts).
- Work in coordination with the parent companies’ HR or leadership representatives to coordinate any matters that impact their employees.
- Effective situation/ conflict management while working closely with managers to ensure employee relations issues are handled professionally and timely.
- Identify potential employee relations issues, resolving as appropriate and escalating to legal and corporate Human Resources as needed.
- Interpret and apply the policies and procedures of joint venture agreements, ensuring compliance with the terms and conditions across all HR practices.
- Overall HR support to Aecon operations within the Caribbean region.
- Travelling will be required on a regular basis, and the candidate must be willing to relocate following the completion of the assignment.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or a related field
- A minimum of 5 years of HR Generalist experience.
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws and safety regulations.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic and matrixed environment/ structure.
- Problem-solving and critical thinking skills with the ability to demonstrate agility in creating valuable solutions to complex issues quickly.
- Versatility in HR portfolio is required, full scope employee life cycle, compensation, recruitment, talent management.
- Organizational development experience is an asset.
- Tactful and effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact with all levels within the organization and influence as required.
- Ability to build a consensus among peers to support human resources strategies
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
- Experience in construction industry would be a valuable asset
