What is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.

 

Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.

 

We are looking for Quantity Surveyor, Intern. At Aecon International, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to streamline project costs and mitigate risks, all while maintaining high standards of quality and adhering to building regulations. This opportunity is available for a work term of up to 12 months.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Assist with project development and delivery to align with business expectations, schedules, and budgets.
  • Evaluate subcontractor quotes.
  • Review conditions and qualifications and assist in drafting and negotiating contract types before tender submission.
  • Ensure interim applications, including executed works, on-site materials, and subcontractor works, are submitted to the client’s team by the agreed deadline.
  • Assess, measure, and recover contract variations.
  • Collect records to verify additional payments and defend claims from subcontractors.
  • Review, evaluate, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
  • Assist in procuring subcontractors.
  • Handle effective dispute resolution.
  • Process payments and issue notices to suppliers and subcontractors, including measuring works and differences to determine final costs and accounts.
  • Participate in weekly financial forecasting, including compiling contract costs.
  • Prepare estimates and costs for the work and monitor them during the project.

 

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related construction discipline.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
  • Knowledge of contract language, terms and conditions, bonding, etc.
  • Knowledge of job cost fundamentals and basic accounting/reporting principles is an asset.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
  • Capability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
