About Us

As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning in 2023 Aecon will support the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.

 

What is the Opportunity? 

The Quality Manager - Civil will report directly to the Project Quality Director and is responsible for the implementation of the Quality Program to the civil construction.  The Quality Manager – Civil will work with other Aecon sectors and Alliance partners to set up building systems and processes that will achieve outstanding nuclear safety metrics and cost-effective quality operational results in support of the DNNP.

 

What You'll Do Here:

  • Ensure Quality Program requirements applicable to Civil, Buildings and Electro-Mechanical works are effectively implemented.
  • Develop and implement project specific procedures and work instruction to support construction activities.
  • Manage the Quality Team assigned to support Civil works.
  • Develop and implement the training and qualification program for inspectors performing concrete inspection and testing activities.
  • Interface with the engineering, procurement, and construction groups on matters related to the planning of QC activities required by the design and applicable codes and standards including preparation of Inspection and Test Plans, Construction Work Packages and NCR management.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and enhance project quality-related documentation, including inspection checklists, test protocols, work instructions and procedures.
  • Conduct management-self assessment to monitor the implementation of the quality program within the project.
  • Establish a culture of continuous improvements by identifying new practices that will contribute to the overall effectiveness of the project.  
  • Maintain liaison with Alliance Partners on matters related to planning and execution of Civil works.
  • Champion and promote a culture of nuclear safety and quality within the project.
  • Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to strategies and policies to sustain safety and quality performance.
  • Support internal and external audits and customer oversight activities.
  • Assist the project construction team with the implementation of codes and standards and regulatory requirements required by the design.
  • Ensure that any subcontractors are evaluated and qualified for their scope of work to project quality program and codes/standards requirements.
  • Supervision of Quality Assurance and Quality Control personnel assigned to support planning and execution of Civil works.

 

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Physical Science, or related field.
  • 10 years of experience in the construction industry with a minimum of 5 years in a Quality management/leadership role.
  • Advance knowledge of codes and standards related to concrete materials and methods of concrete construction including CSA A23.1, CSA A23.2, CSA N291 and CSA N287, and other applicable building regulations.
  • Familiar with CSA W47.1 and CSA W59 requirements for structural steel construction.
  • Previous experience with inspection and testing of concrete.
  • Expertise in the development of Quality Assurance Programs and processes.
  • Continuous improvement and the use of process improvement methodologies.
  • Understands design and construction requirements.
  • Strong coordination and organization skills, with strict emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Advanced ability to communicate effectively, both verbal and written, with all internal organization departments, Alliance partners, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities.
