Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
Reporting to the Project Manager the Senior Cost Controller is responsible for the development, implementation, training and execution of all project controls processes and systems on a large-complex project. Supervise all project control personnel assigned to the project and ensure that all project control activities such as project administration, change management, project estimating, cost management and schedule management comply with all client and company standards and contractual requirements.
What You'll Do Here
- Budgeting and Cost Estimation:
- Assist in preparing initial project budgets, cost set up, converting bids into baseline budget and reconciling gaps
- Assist in managing chart of accounts library to ensure consistency & alignment with established budgets; ensure WBS & CBS alignment
- Analyze and validate cost proposals internally and from subcontractors and vendors
- Work closely with the project team and estimate to align cost with project scope
- Financial Reporting and Forecasting:
- Prepare periodic cost reports, including cost summaries and variance analysis
- Forecast future project costs and recommend adjustments as required
- Ensure cost records are accurate and up to date
- Ensure forecasts are updated timely & accurately; ensure forecasting is informed by performance KPIs & project trends
- Prepare and update project cashflow forecasts in alignment with the project schedule
- Create and maintain customized project cost dashboard to adapt to evolving risks and project needs
- Risk and Change Management:
- Identify potential risk related to cost escalation and budget deviation and recommend mitigation approach
- Ensure compliance to all cost control policies, contracts and regulatory requirements
- Develop and maintain a change log to track all internal & external changes and monitor progress through the change management process
- Cost Optimization and Efficiency:
- Recommend cost saving initiatives and process improvements
- Implement strategies to improve cost efficiencies, without compromise
- Collaborate with other stakeholders and functional departments to optimize cost and resource allocation
- Compliance and Documentation
- Ensure all cost related documentation is maintained and easily accessible
- Support audits by providing accurate cost records and justifications
- Ensure compliance with contract terms, cost control regulations and industry standards
- Others
- Perform any other project/cost control related task as may be assigned by the Project Controls Manager, Function Manager or Program Manager
What You Bring To The Team
- 4 to 8 years industry experience on similar projects
- 2 to 5 years’ experience in Project Controls
- Knowledge of SAP and other project management tools would be an asset
- Good knowledge and experience in Primavera Project Manager
- Good skills in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
- Results oriented individual with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and time lines
- People oriented with an ability to establish a high degree of credibility with staff and clients
- An excellent written and verbal communicator with superior interpersonal and relationship management skills
